I am about to reach my breaking point and get a perm!

I am on the christmas relaxer stretch challenge but things are getting hard now ad I am 9 weeks post relaxer. I have put my hair in flexi-rods but I dont want to continue to roll up my hair b/c my hair keeps getting caught. I think I am going to start bunning up my hair but the only problem is that my newgrowth is physically hard and is difficult to manage. I want to find a product that will make my hair soft so that I don't have to worry about it breaking or looking like a brilo pad. Can you suggest some products to help me soften my 4abcdefg new growth that I can buy in a bss or grocery store? I have used coconut oil and elasta qp mango butter so far with no luck. I really don't want to use too much heat but I need something to keep me from breaking down and getting a perm.

Do you do c.w? My hair comes out real soft after C.W. with motions cpr. Also, I put cantu shea butter on it afterwards and my hair feels really soft.

Parting my hair and applying a lot of scurl right b4 I put the mtg has helped me a whole lot!! I can comb thru without being in pain and it makes it soft for me.

How does Profectiv break-free or ORS Olive oil work in your hair? I have 4a/b, but only 4 weeks post relaxer. If I spritz my hair then apply one or both, usually makes it feel really, really soft (especially the organic root stimulator olive oil). HTH

I just got a relaxer after streching for 13 weeks. I could have gone longer. The key for me when stretching is using the right conditioner to soften my newgrowth. CON or Kenra Platinum for Coarse hair are the only 2 that work for me. I also flat iron my roots once a week with my FHI flatiron but I know some people avoid that.

Without a weave or braids, I could never stretch to Christmas w/o looking a hot mess (kudos to those that can) and wanting to pull my hair out, but try to go a few more weeks before giving up.

Kenra and ORS Hair Mayo soften my natural hair and I'm transitioning. The denman brush makes my hair lay down and wave up.

ok is kenra sold in stores? i really don't want to order anything and waste money on shipping. What about shea butter? does anyone use that to stretch relaxers?

each product will work differently with each person...i dont really have any good recommendations to soften new growth...maybe an oil treatment? while I got conditioner in my hair, i pour a wholleeeeeeebunchof oil in my hair and apply a clear plastic cap and let it sit for about 30 minutes while I do something else... This makes all of my hair super soft and well moisturized for a week.

Hey girl!
Ok, I've been where you are so lemme ask some questions and make some suggestions... :look:
1. How often are you deep conditioning? Deep conditioning is a must for me period, but especially when I'm stretching. Since week 10, I've been deep condtioning twice a week and it's been working beautifully.
2. Are you CO washing? I think someone asked this and your response was no, but I say give it another go and like another poster said, try a different con. The key to CO washing for me is DCing with the right con. I love to add DDTA to whatever mix I'm using, but tonight I'm CO washing with NTM DDC and I'm anticipating great results since I've used this con before.
3. What are using to moisturize the new growth? I would try oiling the scalp/new growth with jojoba oil or WGO after you poo/DC. I like what EQP Mango Butter does for my new growth too.
4. Are you adding oil to your con? This is a must for me at all times. I NEVER condition with just conditioner...it always had some "enhancements." Try adding EVOO and/or honey to your con. It'll make a big difference in the amount of moisture that your new growth retains.
5. How often are you pooing? Like the rest of the strands, the NG needs water. After week 9 or 10, it is mandatory that I poo 1x/wk and CO wash 1x/wk if I even wannna think about touching my new growth without cutting my hand.

I think those 5 things would make a huge difference in how your NG felt. I say give those a shot and maybe reconsider the CO wash with a different con.

HTH...hang in there mama! ;)

And one more thing...when my new growth becomes noticeable, I use a coloring brush to apply the con to NG. I go through section by section and apply the con the way I would relaxer. This makes a TREMENDOUS difference in the way my new growth feels. Mix the con in a boel and use a brush to apply...I think you'll see a difference with this too.

haha! girl, you better act like you know!
about kenra, you can find it at trade secret. some nice salon also sell kenra.

I use (and LOVE) Kenra. You can get it a Beauty First, as well.

The Kenra Platinum Reconstructor for Thick/Coarse hair is what I use. I have have the Moisturizing conditioner and the emollient treatment conditioner, but they are just not as good on kiny roots, in my opinion.

It is pricey, though ($17). CON (I prefer the ultra moisturizing) works great as well, but does tend to leave more buildup on my hair over time and does not smell as good as Kenra. But that's nothing a good clarify can't take care of.

After I wash and use the Kenra Reconstructor, I dry and then flat iron with Keracare pressing cream.

Edges can be tricky, but most times a leave-in cream and an overnight scarf (not too tight of course) can help that.

Belleza, I really feel your pain. I'm in my 10th week and the new growth is getting thick. Right now I'm conditioning with a combo of motions cpr and the generic nexxus humectress conditioners. This should help to soften my new growth and maybe conditioner washing will help you also. My new growth is usually soft, but I guess that's not the case after 10 wks, which is a lot for me. When it grows enough to make a new kink, it'll really be trouble then  . I've started using the really wide tooth bone combs from sally's. They even have a wide tooth rat tail that I love for parting through my newly found thick roots. It's funny, one day I'm sulking because I don't see any new growth, and then it seems that the next week I can barely comb through my hair. I could never make it to Christmas, but good luck to you ladies. Two more weeks to go for me!
