HYH April Fools 2007 Challenge - Less Than 1 Mo To Go!!

I'm still braided up too!! The hardest part for me has been the cutting. Even after april 1st I'm going to continue hiding my hair 'til summer.

Everything is going great for me. Im retaining my length and I have had alot of growth. I'm very happy, I've been braiding my hair and used the baggie methond when I was out of my braids. LIFE IS WONDERFUL

Things are going well. I'm still baggying and switching between Buns and my Phony Ponies. DH is getting tired of the Ponies but he'll get over it once I reveal what's under there  .

Alright I have been doing great with the scarfs but I may have to end it early. As some of you may or may not know, I am a minister. Next week we are having our consecration service for our new building. This will be my first time in full clergy attire (collar etc) and I want to get my hair pressed and look a little more simple. Not to say I don't with my scarfs but I think wearing my hair out will be more fitting. I promise to take pics and go right back to the challenge ASAP. Take care Q

I can't wait to see all the progress pics.
It seems like every second fotki I visit is in the HYH April Fools challenge.

Oopss I found out this week I'm probably traveling in April , but I'll be able to update the last week of April/early May, is that still ok on the challenge?

Looking for updates! We're in the final stretch, less than 30 days to go! :woot:

I'm doing well, still hiding and growing (not by leaps and bounds yet). Weekly Deep Conditioning and daily moisturizing is helping me keep the length though I don't think APL is in the cards for me until mid to end of summer. :perplexed Oh well, better then than never! :D

How's your protective styling working for you? Are you retaining your length? Do you think you'll make your goal length for this stretch?

HHG!!

VWV

I'm doing fine with the baggie and yep I'm retaining all my length. I wash/dc once a week and conditioner wash once a week. I hope to get 2 inches by April:perplexed I'm 6 weeks post now with a nice amt of ng so we'll see.:)

Hi ladies,
I need some SERIOUS help!! I have been doing the HYH Challenge, and I am somewhat pleased with the results in that my hair has grown more than it usually does in this period of time, BUT, the main hair growth is just in the center back of my hair (think of a "V" shape, with the tip of the V being the longest point). However, it seems so thin now!!

My regimen has been to put Profectiv Healthy Ends on the ends of my hair every night and seal with either Kemi oil or Doo Gro stimulating hair oil. I then put a satin bonnet on my head. In the morning, I sometimes reapply Profectiv and Kemi oil or Doo Gro oil, put a stress-free rubberband on in a ponytail and tuck the ends in when I pull the rubberband in the last time. Then, I put on a fake bun on top and pin it with hair pins all the way around, and put a ponytail holder around the bun. When I shampoo my hair, I usually prepoo with Mane-N-Tail conditioner plus Doo Gro stimulating oil for about an hour, then shampoo with Nexxus Humectress (?I think that's the name) shampoo and conditioner or either Neutrogena Triple Moisture shampoo and conditioner. When I use the conditioners, I usually let them stay on a few minutes before rinsing them out. I think once I sat under a bonnet dryer for a while. After shampooing/conditioning, I wring my hair as dry as possible (I don't towel dry) then put in a leave in conditioner (either the same conditioner I used or either Infusium 23) and put my hair in a ponytail with a stress-free rubberband and tie it down with a silk scarf, let it dry overnight.

Hair growing in a "v-shape" seems to be pretty common and natural. Just look at the siggy pics of ladies on this board! I know that my hair seems to grow like this. Nothing for you to worry about there.

As far as your ends being damaged, I bolded the part of your post that I think could be causing that problem. If you're tucking your ends into the rubberband/ponytail holder, that could be putting friction on them that's leading to breakage. Maybe you could try twisting your ponytail ends around into a bun (don't tuck them into the ponytail holder) and putting a baggy on top, THEN putting on your bun cover. This will help keep your ends moisturized. I know that when I wear one of my drawstring ponies, I always make sure to wear a baggie underneath. It really helps maintain those ends.

Try doing a strand test to determine whether your hair needs moisture or protein. Take a few shedded strands and tug them gently. If the strands stretch a lot before breaking, you need protein. If they are brittle and break/snap quickly, you need moisture.

I'm still hanging on! I relaxed my hair last Friday (patting myself on the back for my first self-relax since joining lhcf), and my hair shot clear down to my shoulders!!! I have been continuing to wash and deep condition every 3 days or so and pinning it up in the back. Doing this, my scalp has stayed clean, my ends have stayed nice and thick, and I really don't have to spend all that much time on my hair anymore. Thank you for this challenge, I would have never thought to do this on my own:D

I'm ready to take my twists out...kinda bored with them now:( . Just curious to see where my hair is now. I'll try and hold out another 2 weeks before I take them out and get a touch up.:ohwell:

I am hanging in there as well, I think I had a little growth. But the most improvement for me was how much healthier my hair is ... ( slowly becoming a product junkie too:grin: )

A BIG THANK YOU FOR ALL THE GREAT TIPS AND ADVISE!!!!

Im new so I didn't really sign up for the hide-your-hair til April fool's Challenge, but I knew about it from long-time lurking. And I have been participating, though after April fools I will still be hiding my hair. But come April 1st, I want to see how much closer to full shoulder length I am since that's my first goal. I think I've done good with my regimen. i've been keeping my hair back in a pigtail (no, I can't call it a pony tail yet) and I have been also plaitting my hair, I can't braid to scalp. I can't wait to show myself and ya'll my progress. Im really hiding from family and friends--the ones who doubted me when I said Im going to grow my hair out this year. They did this to me :yep: but I think/know they meant this :nono: !

:look: Yeah, you're right! It's been a long week...:ohwell:

Well, it's ALMOST 14 days! I'm wanting this challenge to be sooooo over, I want to see my hurr.

It's great to see everyone hanging in for the long haul! Anyone thinking ahead to the Christmas stretch coming up? ;)

When I baggy, I usually put some Africa's Best Carrot Oil Cream (my daily moisturizer) on my ends. If they feel drier than normal, I may also smooth some shealoe butter (shea butter & aloe vera gel mixed together) on them or spray them with diluted S-Curl. I got the shealoe butter from lotioncrafter.com. I then seal my ends with castor oil. It's too heavy to use on the rest of my hair, but it's great for my ends. Then, I put my hair in a little ponytail, twist it around, and put a small sandwich bag over it. I secure the baggy with another ponytail holder and cover it with an old nylon knee-high stocking (this part is optional, I just do it so I don't hear the plastic baggy "rustling" around all day!). :)

I am barely hanging in there... .Had a few set backs with protein over load:( ...
I am recovering though...

Sounds like everyone is doing great.... That's good news...

I can't wait to see all the healthy hair...

Girl yes! Believe it or not I'm thinking of hiding well past April 1st. My hair's loving me for the low manipulation! I got maybe 1/2 an inch in a month so I'm a little disappointed but my hair grows slower during the winter and faster in the spring and summer. I'm soooo wanting to henna but I'm afraid of messing something up. lol

Yep, I'll be signing up for the Christmas challenge. I'm in the BootCamp Challenge for the rest of year, sooooo yah:perplexed I'm in....:p

Hey Everybody

I'm hanging in there too! I wear my hair in one low braid day after day ... I have some new growth, but I'm scared that I may be disappointed come April 1st. :( Does anybody else feel that way, or am I just being paranoid???

No, I'm there with you. I would check my new growth all the time, and even though I was 11 weeks post, it seemed like I only had 1/2 inch of growth. I relaxed last week, and boy was I wrong!!!! I think you will definitely see length since you've been consistant. If you have not had any serious breakage or shedding events, be prepared to so some great progress!!!

Hi ladies!

I'm back!! So sorry I haven't been on to check in, but I'm so happy that VWVixen has taken up the torch to keep everyone in touch!

So I'm sooo happy to see how many of us stuck with the challenge!

As for me...I've been doing well. I've hid everyday sine the challenge started. I relaxed just this sunday. I trimmed about a .5 inches 3 weeks ago since I haven't trimmed in almost a year.
Anyway I can"t wait for the big reveal! I will start that thread at 12am on April 1st. Can't wait to see!!!

Hi Ladies!!

I'm still in and bunning.....I'm getting ready to relax this weekend though. My hair is starting to shed and yelling for a relaxer. I'm 13 weeks post. I can't wait to see the progress pics!!:D

Yep. I'm afraid of disappointment in terms of length too.... :look:

I think i will be finishing this challenge earlier .I m going to relax next week for my birthday and i was going to use my pass ,but i dont really see the point of still hiding my hair afterward since it will be only a week left till April first.
Im worry that i will not have any major progress to show off cause my hair had been breaking off pretty badly.

I'm still hanging on also. I have been wearing my hair in a bun for months. I love wearing it this way. I have been washing and conditioning it weekly and moisturizing it daily. I am very pleased at what I see so far. I think I will show you ladies the results but not anyone else until Junish (my next touch up).
