Howse\'s conditioner and dew.........*thumbs down**

My hair has been breaking ever since I used her conditioner.....oh, the woes of being a PJ. What on earth is wrong with this junk??? /images/graemlins/mad.gif /images/graemlins/mad.gif

Re: Howse\'s conditioner and dew.........*thumbs do

Girl, I'm so sorry that your hair is breaking. Go back to whatever you were doing immediately!

I just got my dew this week and I must say that I don't really care for it either.

Funny how different things work for different people--'cause we've got some hair sisters on here who love it /images/graemlins/love.gif

Re: Howse\'s conditioner and dew.........*thumbs down**

Hi Leshia,

So Sorry to hear that. /images/graemlins/frown.gif Her conditioner works so well with me. It's been my best friend on this journey for better hair. I use the Dew, every day all day, and have no problems at all. It's what I use to give my hair some added moisture in this bitter cold.

Re: Howse\'s conditioner and dew.........*thumbs down**

Leisha

Sorry to hear it never worked out for you. Don't you just hate that? Especially when a product has been raved about and you can't wait to try it only to be dissapointed /images/graemlins/ohwell.gif Definitely go back to your products you used before that worked for you and get that breakage under control. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: Howse\'s conditioner and dew.........*thumbs down**

I'm sorry that the conditioner and moisturizer didn't work out for you, also. I have been using both since Aug. of last year. I'm crazy about the Dew. I even made up my own batch of the conditioner...

Re: Howse\'s conditioner and dew.........*thumbs down**

The Dew left my hair feeling hard. I didn't find it very moisturizing at all.

The only good thing about the conditioner is the tingling effect.
I think her products are better for those with fine/medium textured hair.(Like Cathy's)

It's not worth the price at all. There are other sprays out there that do a better job at moisturizing and they are a lot cheaper. For example 'Dark and lovely moisture plus' spray. It leaves your hair soft for a whole day.
Another good one is 'African Royale' Natural Fro Spray and many many more. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

As for the conditioner, you can make your own. She gave the recipie for it in her first edition of the book.
You can even add Peppermint to any conditioner you use, for the tingling effects.

The recipie for the conditioner is:

16oz Of any reconstructor you like
8oz Olive Oil
4oz Coconut Oil
2 tsp of Peppermint Oil

Re: Howse\'s conditioner and dew.........*thumbs down**

Leshia, are you one of those that did'nt read the book just used the products?

I'm very surprised the that Dew left you're hair HARD /images/graemlins/ohwell.gif.

How are you using the Dew? Could it have been a bad batch? Usually, after I wash, condition and wrap my hair, I spray my hair with the Dew and concentrate on the flyaway hair or the new growth....smooth it down with the dew, seal it with an "oil" and it's smooth sailing the next morning.

Re: Howse\'s conditioner and dew.........*thumbs down**

Nope. I'm a fine haired and this stuff was conceivably the worst thing that I have ever used in my life. It was the only conditioner that I've ever used that has actually CAUSED my hair to break.

Re: Howse\'s conditioner and dew.........*thumbs down**

Dew Ingredients List:

Purified Water, Propylene Glycol, Cyclomethicone, Dimethicone, Polysorbate-20, Coconut Oil, Lanolin, Methylparaben, Fragrance, Propylparaben, FD&C Yellow No. 6. FD&C Yellow No.5.

It's hard to believe that water, humectants and silicones can cause breakage. But I guess everyone is different.

Her conditioner is:
Ingredients List:

With the exception of the royal bee jelly, is normal standard stuff. She states this in her book that if you use it and don't moisture IMMEDIATELY after or do other wrong things that you will have problems.

Pebbles, I think this definitely what we were talking about in the other thread.

Re: Howse\'s conditioner and dew.........*thumbs down**

Wow!!! Is that all there is in Dew? Hmmmm...could one make a similar product at home? I know some folks love to mix their own stuff here. I may give it a try.

Re: Howse\'s conditioner and dew.........*thumbs down**

I was wondering myself about her products..I am sorry you had a bad experience..Try Bontanical Herbal Mist by Soft Sheen it like a dew and gives out a light moisture coating on the hair. Also for stimulation of the scalp try Fantisia by IC Tea Tree serum with tea tree and peppermint( love that stuff)..It will be ok /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Re: Howse\'s conditioner and dew.........*thumbs down**

I would also like to express my apology for your hair breakage. Did you even read her book and follow the directions carefully? /images/graemlins/wink.gif With the ingredients in Dew I find it hard to conceive that those ingredients could actually cause your hair breakage. /images/graemlins/confused.gif I having been using Dew for several months and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! Dew has cause profound results to my hair. Before Dew nothing detangled or moisturized and/or contributed to my hair growth - ever! Don't you think it's kinda immature to call Dew "junk" that wasn't very nice. No one else calls products junk here even if they dislike them. The price for Dew is comparable, it's the shipping charge that makes it a little pricy.

Hair growth and care begins with knowledge. Take care or your hair. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Howse\'s conditioner and dew.........*thumbs down**

I agree with you, she probably didn't read the book. I was wondering if she was referring to the Dew or her own hair when she used the word "Junk". /images/graemlins/confused.gif Either way that is no way to refer to your hair or a good product. Just a thought.

Re: Howse\'s conditioner and dew.........*thumbs down**

Hi Leshia,

I"m sorry to hear this happened. You should stop using it immediately and go back to what you know works. I have learned this and you will learn it too...not every product that is recommended on this forum is going to work the same for your hair. Everyone's hair is different and what works excellent for someone else may be a disaster for you. Also know that it may take a lot of trial and error to find the right products that work for your hair.

The good part is that when something doesn't work for you and someone else mentions "Great Product", you know to weed it out and you don't have to worry about trying it again. The bad part is it can be expensive trying new things but you can use this board to trade. Once you put together a routine that works, you may stray off your routine sometimes but you will never stray to far from what you know works. It's one of those learning stages that many of us on this forum has gone through. /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Re: Howse\'s conditioner and dew.........*thumbs down**

I also recently ordered Dew and I think it works just fine. It's important to note though, that I usually don't use it on it's own. After I spray the Dew in, I follow with a little oil, or cream hairdress. I think on it's own it's almost like spritzing your hair with water. It doesn't give my hair enough shine. That's why I put in the other stuff afterwards.

My daughter has also been using it, and she loves it. I just asked her and she says it makes her hair soft and shiny.

Like you guys said, I think it works differently on everyone's hair...

Re: Howse\'s conditioner and dew.........*thumbs down**

Dew repellant - I always, always, spray oil sheen or use oil on my hair first and then spray the dew. My hair loves it. The dew couldn't cause breakage because it is a wet product. I think the original poster is referring to the conditioner marketed by Howse.

Re: Howse\'s conditioner and dew.........*thumbs down**

I wouldn't take Leshia's use of the word junk to heart. I use the Dew and UBH and most everyone on the forum knows that I love these products. One man's "junk" is another man's treasure. If something was causing my hair to break off, junk would probably be one of the most polite words I could find to describe it. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: Howse\'s conditioner and dew.........*thumbs down**

Pebbles, Thank you for saying this. I think it is important to remember that people are posting their personal experiences about a product . Those feelings are going to be just as strong for products we don't like as those that we do. I'm not sure why folks take a negative product reviews personally...

At any rate I also wanted to clarify , for my part, that I was commenting on the conditioner and not the Dew, since that's what the inital post was about. The Dew I didn't try - because my experience with the conditioner was so poor. The Ultra Black Hair Conditioner caused my hair to break. Severely. The reason was because it contained too much protein to use on a routine basis for my hair type, texture, and current state of health.

I read her book cover to cover several times because she gives a good basic starting point for haircare - but I don't think there is anything in her book that will assist the people for whom her products and methods simply do not work. It's a one shot approach to haircare - do this and your hair will grow. For me, simply not so. If this is true of LeShia as well, or anyone else for that matter, it wouldn't be the first time or the last.

Different things work for different people. I am sure Cathy's Methods work well for many people and I applaud them for finding something that assisted them on their journey. I am only commenting extensively because I notice boards tend to get very up in arms and defensive over this particular method and I'm not sure I understand why.

Edited to add: LeShia - find your best mositurizing conditioner and use it faithfully for 2-4 weeks with every wash. Give your hair lots of moisture. it is most likely protein overload causing your breakage. You need to raise the moisture content of your hair. Seal it with a nice light oil either on wet or dry hair - do you rollerset or airdry...You can PM me if the thread gets too long...

That's my winter regimine Tracy /images/graemlins/grin.gif!. I must have more moisture during this time or my hair will break at the slightest touch.

Re: Howse\'s conditioner and dew.........*thumbs down**

Leshia, my hair started breaking badly after using her conditioner too. It made my hair really hard and dry (straw-like). I think I might have to cut it. But I won't know for sure until my next retouch. Go back to your old reliable products and keep those strands super moisturized. (worlds of curls activator gel is great for constant moisture). So sorry /images/graemlins/frown.gif

*laughing* you can't express your apologies for my bad experience and then turn around and call me immature...it just negates your "sincerity"...secondly, opinions are opinions..I have mine, you have yours. I didn't like it and unless I made it myself, I couldn't care less what you'd consider "junk"! Lighten up, this board is for discussion and I don't intend to stifle my opinion just because the "junk" worked for you. That's just the way I feel girlie..

You hit the nail on the head. I paid ten bucks for that stuff when on the packaging slip she put the value of both the dew and conditioner to be "$2.00". I'm glad your hair is loving this Peb, but mine is freaking out!

You know, I hate to go back to this but this really offends me. What don't you understand about "discussion"? It's one thing if you're going to shed some light on why the product may not be doing my hair well, but if you're also going to call me ignorant for trying a new product then I have to draw the line...Let me know if I'm taking this the wrong way or better yet, don't be so offensive with your replies. Thank you.

Good advice, I'll hit the moisturizing conditioner hard and pray that aids in this catastrophe. Thanks for understanding my "opinion" as well...I appreciate being able to discuss my experiences with you all and getting some positive feedback and support.

Re: Howse\'s conditioner and dew.........*thumbs do

Leshia, JUST FOR SUPPORT, sweetie--it also felt drying to me too. And, you are entitled to your opinion. I guess some people have gotten such great results with this product that they're seeing you as some sort of "weirdo" because it didn't work for you. I guess I'd do the same thing (secretly) if someone said Elucence (the haircare dream) didn't work for them /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Anyway, if you need any suggestions for specific products, let me know. I really love Elucence. It is very moisturizing. And if you just want a light spray conditioner to use on non-wash days, the pantene light detangler is nice. /images/graemlins/Rose.gif

Hugs to YOU!

Re: Howse\'s conditioner and dew.........*thumbs down**

I had straw like hair from that Motions CPR or whatever that conditioner was with the herbs. The scariest hair time for me was to see my hair break offknow follow any protein conditioner with a moisturizing conditioner.

Re: Howse\'s conditioner and dew.........*thumbs down**

Crys...

Hey chica! With this weather mositure is KEY....we'll come out on the other end. I am SO glad we have this board tho! A few days this week I swore my ends were just gonna freeze solid and snap right off like little icicles. /images/graemlins/blush.gif

Re: Howse\'s conditioner and dew.........*thumbs down**

I think some of them are Cathy's representitives.

Why do they treat you like you're the one at fault when you say that her products don't work?

Hmmm...Why should you have to use other moisturizers for the Dew to work? If the Dew is so moisturizing, then you shouldn't have to use anything else with it. The daily mist of Dew should be all that you need.

Can you please tell me what is wrong with using the word junk for something that you don't like?
Also...please tell me why it is immature to use that word.(junk)

If you use something and it doesn't work like it says on the bottle, then it's junk isn't it.
