i still do two strand twist in semi-large sections, but have incorporated oil rinsing into my routine and this has worked wonders for mitigating ssks! before joining LHCF and before reaching my current length of right around APL, i didn't even know what ssks were! thanks for this thread, OP!

Banding seems to help keep my hair stretched and tangle free. Also when I dry my hair in a pony tail I don't notice as many ssk's. Ultimately though just not going too long without combing seems to help me. Like every 2-4 days.

i need to know this stuff too. How exactly do you oil rinse? Is it the same as a hot oil treatment?

I prepoo with condtioner and detangle before I shampoo. I take a small section, braid it up and move on to the next one. Then I shampoo and condition in the braids. I towel dry the braids so that they are just damp, take a braid down at a time and then I twist or braid with a creamy moisturizer and a holding product. Each night I have to braid or twist my hair back up so it doesn't tangle up and each night that I do so I finger comb my strands to make sure I remove the shed hairs.

I also dust when the ends start getting janky.
