Maybe it's just me... I have short hair and I've tried to wrap it several times, but no success. It always comes out okay on one side but then looking like WHOA on the other.
Would someone please give me the step by step basics? Thanks in Advance Ladies, God Bless!

What is your wrapping method? Are you using any type of setting aid such as wrap foam or setting lotion when wrapping your hair? Is your hair wet enough when you attempt to wrap it? Are you using any pins or clips to hold it in place? Where are you starting your wrap (i.e., from a side part, the crown of your head, etc.?

Okay, first I put Motion's Wrap Foam on my hair and then I comb it all outward from the center of my head. Then, starting from the front, I swoop it and comb around and clip it in place. It looks like a wrap...?????

Have you ever tried switching up directions? Once you initially train the hair into being wrapped period, you can try switching directions-one night wrap to the right and the next night wrap to the left. Or you could do a few days right then a few days left. This seems to work for me. I've also noticed that my wrap looks like crap when I need a relaxer - I guess the new growth has a voice of it's own! HTH :D

I've been wrapping my hair for years and years now and I finally was honest with myself and decided that wrapping never really worked for me. And to be honest it just sounds like a bad idea...whomever thought of it. Because the side that is wrapped towards the front-direction will be poofy and unruly when you unwrap it. And that side will break when you are combing it in the wrong direction and it'll break again when you are combing it back to the right direction. so there is too much breakage involved. Plus you'll have to flat-iron just to get it to look right. and let's not forget the way your hair leans to one side when you wear it down. :look: that really sucks. anyways, i was trying various hairstyles to wear at night which would be the easiest to comb and go in the morn.
I tried the back braid but i was unhappy to have waves in my hair in the morn which means i have to flat-iron it to straighten and bump it.
I tried the ponytail at top of my head, but i will have the indentations in my hair and my hair will not lay flat unless i flat-iron it.
I tried combing all my hair back and just wrapping my hair around 1 large roller at the nape of my neck. well the roller left an indentation and also my ends would be rolled too tight which means i have to flat-iron to loosen the curl. not to mention uncomfy to sleep on a roller. :ohwell:

I started doing a 'double-wrap' sort of speak. what i mean is I'll part the back of my hair top to bottom. then i'll comb the left side of hair so the back is wrapping to the right. and then i'll comb the right side of hair so that it is wrapping to the left. It is easier than it sounds i guess, there is no combing or manipulating, I just comb my hair back and then wrap it around with my hand. then i'll hold my hand there to keep it in place, then place a scarf on my head with the other hand.

so when i wake up in the morning, the back has a slight bend to it. All i have to do is rake a pick/comb thru the back to get rid of the part, and i'll rake the back/sides to comb them down. and THAT IS IT! All of my hair is still flat and smoothe and when i comb the sides down they have a slight bend as well. .....

i hope this helps you!!

I have been wrapping my hair for 16 years now.
It has worked wonders and I love it.
I don't wrap when I'm 8-9 weeks post relaxer.
I have never wrapped it wet, to much stress on it.
keep it smooth all around, no pins. Use some serum or oil and smooth around with hands. Tie on satin scarf. I never have any problems next day. Falls straight. Only time I have problems is when I'm to lazy to sit there and smooth it, then it comes out half stright next day..lol.

yea sylver i think wrapping works best for those with either ultra short hair (1-4inches long) or those with very long hair (bra-strap). for those inbetween it just doesn't work. and the wrapping lotions and stuff makes the hair hard if you use it for 3days in a row....

well anyways, i just don't get it. but I'm glad it works for you and other folks!

I wrapped my hair for about five years and reaslised the side where my parting goes always breaks off. Anyway since I decided to start loving my hair, I dont wrap anymore and the breakage has reduced. I miss the wrap effect u get in the mornings though.

I was hoping to come in here and find a solution. But you all have scared me especially the piece about your hair falling out where you part your hair. I think I've seen that effect on other folks head.

Lol, this is news to me.
I've been wrapping for 16 years, never had breakage from wrapping. If anything, wrapping is what saved my hair. Most of my friends have been wrapping the same amount of time and they love wrapping. They all have long hair.
Maybe its the way people are wrapping who knows.
I wrapped when I had my halle berry cut, I wrapped when I had my chin length and shoulder length cut and I wrap at past bra strap.
I don't use any foam or any type of wrap lotion. I just wrap it.

ITA with Sylver2. Once I started wrapping my hair (which I did for a number of years, wet and dry) my length increased dramatically. I never had any problems with it. If one side was ever unruly, I would tame it with a little product, hair accessories or combing it in the opposite direction it was wrapped in. At that time, Isoplus wrapping lotion was my product of choice.

I also agree with Sylver2 and balisi. I have never experienced breakage with wrapping my hair. If anything, wrapping my hair on a daily basis has kept it moisturized and saved it from damage. Every night, I mix EVOO and some Surge #9 Oil and apply it to my ends. I wrap my hair by parting it to form four sections. This has been working for me- hope it helps! :)

I wrap my hair when I wear it straight with no problems. The only time I had breakage was when I tied the scarf too tight at the back of my head. I also suggest switching directions each night. This will prevent that "lean" or "puffiness" on one side.
HTH

I guess that everyone's hair is different because when I decided to stop wrapping my hair, my sides thanked me for it :) . It is just way too much manipulation for my fine hair.

Nice, how do you wear your hair to bed, and how do you wear your hair during the day. I wear my hair out in a roller wrap all the time. I'm looking for an alternative to wrapping.

I want to do something besides wrapping too. :yep:
