Newbie here, so I need your help ladies. I am a relaxed (been 10 weeks since last relaxer) 4b hair type?? But I do have to admit, I am here because I need the help and my hair is pretty damaged. My goal is to grow my hair out to at least shoulder length. Right now I am not even at chin length in the front, but in the back I am neck length. I have different layers to grow out in my hair.

Where do I start??? I am going to go buy products, including a hooded hair dryer (cheaper one for starters) this weekend and want to start my journey.

Please give me some product recommendations. I need tips and info on getting and maintaining a moisturized, healthy hair in the dry Denver, CO climate.

I have my first full head weave and would like to remove it without too much damage to my hair. Also I am going to prepare to get another sew-in within a few days of removing this one? Bad idea, if so what else should I do?

I would remove the weave
Co-wash with a moisturizing conditioner
Wash my hair (clarify, maybe?)
Protein treatment -
Deep condition
Dry under a dryer

Then I'll have my sister in law corn roll my hair and sew in a curly weave a couple of days later.

Please share all your thoughts, tips and recommendations, all responses are welcome. Thanks in advance for everything!!

Michelle

If you're not touching up your relaxer before getting the new weave in, you can do it a few days later if you'd like. Your list of things you plan to do looks good to me but why do you need to cowash before you plan on washing with shampoo? Also I would suggest putting conditioner on your hair when you detangle before you wash. It'll make it easier.

Bmore. Thank you for replying. I truly appreciate it. And you see I do need the help, I don't fully understand what the "right" regime would be. Good point on the co-wash. Correct me now if i am wrong.. girls co-wash on days that they DONT wash with a poo? right? I think I am getting the hang of things. Thanks again. Off to buy some products.

It just depends on your hair and regimen. I generally don't Co wash my hair even when it's out. It's just not my thing. I don't think you should be washing a weave that much. It's just unnecessary and it might make it start to look rough sooner. I usually wash and Dc once a week no matter how my hair is styled.

Hello Shell and welcome to the board! I noticed the you plan to sit under the dryer after a protein treatment. Would it be possible to let your hair airdry? I generally do some type of moisture after protein but my hair is super-duper dry any way so any moisture is my friend. HTH.

Welcome!!

If u take good care of UR hair under your weave---you should really see a turn around in the health of it!! *I luv sewins!*

Your plan looks good! I would clarify before your protein treatment too.

Ok--so u said you want some good (cheap) prodcut rec.....u can get all of this from Sallys or most BSS..and they are good products (for me)

Hooded Dryer--Sallys Ion (pink) ~$44

Ayong, thanks for the recommedations on products!! This is what I got.

ION dryer GOT IT!! Im excited about that

I went with alot of aphrogee products... dont ask me why really..

I got the 2 in 1 protein treatment, damaged hair shampoo, the balancing mositurizer for after the protien treatment and I also got a silk elements deep conditioner.

Feel free to chime in and share any insight on the products I purchased.

Also I guess my main worry was the fact that I am really stretching my relaxer. I usually relaxed every 6-8 weeks and currently all my hair braided down for the weave hasn't been relaxed since May 3rd I think and I had the front and edges relaxed prior to this weave (june 14th)

Ayong, why do you recommend air drying after my treatment and DC? Just curious.. I can definitly do it, I am just probing to see if there are any benefits of air drying vs. drying under the dryer... Thanks girl for everything. Michelle

hey there,

when i am in sewins--i stretch too. My last stretch was 20 weeks. As long as ur hair is braided and your taking care of it--i think you will be fine. This is also why i make sure i treat my hair underneath like gold and when i take my weave out---i do a protein treatment and baby it!

ur products sound fine from what i know about them--just be sure to get a moistuizer for your hair once u have the weave in.

Oh, and i didn't recommend air drying--that was the poster b/f me:) I hop under my dryer for my treatments and DC usually.
