How to measure NEW GROWTH

Hi Everyone,
I apologize if this has been discussed before but I could not find any past threads on this subject. Anyhoo, I would like to know how to measure new growth, since it is coiled up how do you measure it. Do you pull the hair straight to measure the growth or do you measure it in its coily state?

And also when should you start to see the difference in newgrowth texture. I think I can see my Newgrowth but its not coiled enough?

I have seen others who stretch the NG to measure. Some just give an estimate. It depends on how coily/wavy it is.

I stretch my NG out when I measure it.

I'd say the best way will be to pull gently till NG's uncurled, then measure.
If people measure new growth without stretching i reckon the results may be rather misleading
