Can anyone tell me how to gauge the strenght of your hair and what can you do to make it stronger? I've read many threads on moisture, but not much on strenght. Thanks in advance!
You should read SistaSlick's sticky about hair breakage.
I can only speak for myself, but I used to mix strength and moisture up and had myself all confused. My hair seemed stong but it was breaking. I thought - protein protein protein because protein = strength = less breakage right?
Well, for my hair (I can only speak to myself) the true test is the elasticity of my hair when wet and dry if the balance/moisture ratio is on point.
Personally, henna and cassia treatments have helped me in the strength department!! Those treatments (with heat) have allowed me to get strong hair w/o drying it out like hard-core protein does for me. Then I am left to have fun moisturizing . I still throw in an Aphogee keratin or Joico treatment after a relaxer touchup.
Thanks so much for the info. I think you are right about wet hair being the best test of strenght (elasticity). I henna'd for the first time a couple of weeks ago and I was very pleased, however, I did not sit under heat with the henna. I didn't know that you could do that. Thanks for the tip, I will try it next time. As for challenges, I have just started my first one...APL by June.
