I want to wash tonight, but I want to get touch-uped on Saturday; is that too close together? Will my scalp burn??? /images/graemlins/huh.gif What can I do besides basing well to prevent a scalp burn from washing???

if at all possible i would say wait until saturday... unless you're doing a protein treatment or something to strengthen the hair, I woudn't recommend washing it. Usually relaxers have a written warning on them that tell you NOT to wash hair prior to relaxing for X amount of days. I've seen this range from 24hours to 3 days. To be on the safe side i always waited at least 3 days. HTH

Beana3,

Do you know specifically why we're supposed to wait? If I know that then maybe I can prevent what might happen if you don't? *did that make sense*/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Not Beana3 but when you wash you are manipulating the hair and scalp and when you comb it out you're potentially putting microscopic tears in the scalp that could lead to scalp burn. OUCH! /images/graemlins/shocked.gif...

Thanks Caramela. I just called Sally to make sure that they had the Jilbere in stock so I'll just wash wrap, and flat iron and wait until Monday to get the touch-up. I don't want to take any chances and get scabby head!/images/graemlins/antlers.gif (My lil sis always gets a scabby head after her touch-ups!)

ok, I dont want to mislead you, but here is what I think happens.. if i'm wrong someone please correct me!
Ok, water has a PH of 7 and the hair's ph is lower, so water raises the cuticle slighty (but not in a damaging way). the action of raising the cuticle (by washing it) that close to a cuticle blasting (relaxer) process can cause damage. It takes some time for cuticle to lay flat (like 24hours) again, and I think that's why washing to close to a relaxer is not recommmended. I hope tat makes sense to you.
If you absolutely insist, maybe doing a protein treatment, an ACV rinse (to seal cuticles) and the hair sealing routine (the one that the hair lady does) will help, but i still would wait 3 days if possible HTH, if you have any more questions, ask away!!!!

Thx Beana3,

I thought that was the reason why and I was thinking of doing the ACV rinse to seal the cuticle *great minds think alike* but now I'm going to wait because I'm getting a Jilbere today!/images/graemlins/clap.gif

I washed my hair 2 days before a touch-up. Years ago. It didn't make much of a difference because I laid on the Sensitive Scalp really thick before it was relaxed. I didn't feel anything.

But I still wouldn't advise it. It's too close to Saturday.

One reason you are told not to wash your hair before relxing is because water causes pores in your scalp to open. You DO NOT WANT open pores when relaxing. That will cause serious scalp damage. /images/graemlins/shocked.gif Some hair salons will make you sit under a cool dryer prior to relaxing if you've been exposed to humidity. However, I usually stop washing my hair 48 hours prior to relaxing. Don't wan to take any chances.

Uh oh even though i know about the 3 day rule, my second to last touch up I did less than 24 hours after my last hair wash, and it turned out to be the best touch up I had. Even though my hair can withstand anything, this thread has scared the /images/graemlins/censored.gif out of me, and will not be doing that again. My first and last time.

/images/graemlins/mad.gif Bad Nai Nai!
