I have thick/alot of hair, even though the strands are thin. When I go to condition/moisturize my hair it seems like the middle/ and some other spots don't get touched or it's not penetrating those strands. I even use the shower comb and if I part through some parts look like they haven't been conditioned-it looks rough. I've started parting my hair down the middle to moisturize both sides and the middle feels much better doing this but there is still some parts on either side closer to my ear that doesn't seem moisturized. It's hard to part my hair like this before I condition b/c the hair is usually tangled(from Poo). Am I the only one having this problem?:ohwell:

How are you girls applying conditioner and moisturizer? Do you section in 4 parts? Apply like relaxer? Or do I have to use heat every time I condition?

I have thick strands & a lot of hair so I definitely apply like a relaxer even if I don't use an applicator brush. I may part in 2 or 4 using my fingers, then I part using my fingers in straight lines going back. I apply dc, conditioner or scalp moisturizer along the lines and if it is conditioner i do both sides of the part because my strands are so thick that the conditioner applied on one side of the part may not penetrate to the other side. When I do this my new growth is soft, manageable and moisturized, when I try to just slather on and call it a day I know not to put anything in near those roots until I wash again lest I never want to see said object again.

Section your hair before you start the wash process. You could put it in twists or braids or just use the big claw clips. Then apply your conditioner to each section. And yes, it's good to apply it like a relaxer, that way you make sure you're getting every strand. Don't skimp on the conditioner either.

You can section your, and braid it up in loose braids to wash and then apply the conditioner to each section after wards. It will be a lot easier that way and you can make sure all of your hair gets conditioner on it.

So I'll be washing my hair w/ braids? :ohwell: I'll have to try this because it seems as if it'll tangle or the poo wouldn't wash all the way out..

I remember doing this when I first joined the board and while my hair turned out terrific..it was time consuming and took more conditioner-not that I care about having to buy more:yep:-it'll even help me get rid of some of the ones i have..

I have very thick hair and i don't have a problem conditioning. I just apply the conditioner or moisturizer in sections; more like rows starting the back and every strand gets coated.

That's what I had in mind, so I'll have to part instead of slathering on. thanks

Cookie1, I had this problem before I found this site. Because of this the back of my hair has been severely neglected. Anyhoo, I wash my hair, then I detangle with some cheapie conditioner (Herbal Essence Hello Hydration). I do this with my shower comb under the shower stream. then I get out the shower and apply my deep conditioner liberally. I part my hair into several sections and apply conditioner from root to tip with the conditioner and then I comb through. This part has been made simiplier b/c of the detangling step in the shower. Then I steam my hair for at least 15 minutes. By the time I get out from under the steamer, my dc has totally soaked into every portion of my hair and the back has not been neglected. I think the detangling step and how I apply the conditioner in sections has helped tremendously but I have to give props to my steamer as well b/c when I get from under it the conditioner is totally in there and looks nothing like when it was applied.

Well said. The relaxer brush routine really helps. Prior to site all I did so slap the conditioner on and leave it for no more than 5 minutes and I was done:nono:

Today I put it in using the back of the rattail comb just smoothing along the parts I made with my fingers. I used less conditioner and it was not as messy and was relatively quick. I really was surprised at how much less of my deep condition concoction I had left over so maybe instead of using the applicator brush you can try this method once to see if it works better. Amazing the difference considering how similar it is.

I wash my hair in about 6 braids (Crown & Glory Method). When I condition, I take down the braid first to apply the conditioner and rebraid the hair so it doesn't get tangled. I rinse the condition out while in braids.

I applied today like relaxer after doing a baking soda/condish rinse (which detangles greatly). I didn't put it on so thick but, i coated the hair nicely and it turned out great. The middle/back of my hair didn't get neglected and wasn't all rough. My whole head is like butter. Thanks girls
