Hair product junkie reloaded!
Just wondering how often those of you with the Maiglide use it. I have not used it a lot but I may start using it more when I am not in braids....really only to see length and make it more manageable when I am oiling my scalp.

i had to take mine back to the store. after having it for about a week it started making funky smells. it was so bad that people that live on my hall knocked on my door to see if there was a fire. girl i was so embarassed. and when i took it back to linens n things, somehow they were not surprised that there was something wrong with it. the funny thing is that they didn't have the maxiglide with the other flat irons and the other flat irons, which are much cheaper by the way, were in far nicer packages and looked like they were higher quality. go figure!

I use it on my daughters hair maybe every three weeks, I only use Elast QP Silk and some times Farouck Silk Therapy to prevent the burning smell

i have been using mine once a week with the plate with the combs and if i am going some where i might touch it up with the flat plate and the heat does nothing to my natural hair my curlies bounce back after every wash

Luckily you were able to take yours back. Mine just stopped heating up ... period and I bought it online and couldn't return it after 30 days (IIRC). It worked really well when it worked though :ohwell: .

I used mine on 5...that thing is HOT! I just finished Maxigliding my hair. I had washed my hair and went over it once, but it didnt take too well. I then put some Hot 6 oil on my hair and then it flattened it rather nicely. It looks like I just got a relaxer. I am getting some braids done tomorrow so I wanted to make sure it was manageable. its sooo soft and I can tell that my hair is growing. one piece is really shooting out...I just ordered some more Surge + and will be using this and MTG with braids for the next two months....then, me and my Maxiglide shall meet again for a length comparison.

is this only for people with natural hairs?

It's a ceramic flat iron. It comes with an additional smooth plate to attach, but one of the plates is smooth, and other plate has little "gripper" things (that's just what I call them, someone may have a better description) that make it really easy to just "glide" it down your hair shaft without all the normal pulling and squeezing effort you have with regular flat irons. It also has a steam feature on it as well. I have one and have only used it once and I really like it. Another thing is that you can get really close to your roots without burning your scalp....They usually have the infomercial on t.v. If you see it, I promise you, you will be a believer....

I have had mine for about a month and have only used it once on myself and did my sister's hair with it. I will probably use it no more than 3 or 4 times per year...

are you natural or relaxed?

I use mine about once every two weeks (I use it to press my 75% natural hair - 25% relaxed hair). The most I've used it is one a week.

I use mine on 5, but I am experimenting with it on lower settings. One thing I've learned is that the products I use to use when flatironing my hair, I can't with the maxiglide. All I use is the Heat Miracle mist and Ion straightening protectact.

When I use to use gloss/serum (Farouk or NTM) I noticed that it left a dark residue on my iron which "catches" my hair as it goes through. So I had to stip that and QUICK!
