.....I was just wondering. I know this is something that I struggle with through my christian walk, I don't think I spend as much time reading the word and praying as I should.I currently spend about two days a week, my ideal would be to spend at least an hour a day. I know I need to get better, the more time I spend with God the closer I get to him, and the more I'll hear him speak to me. And reading the word will allow me to distinguish his voice from my own.

It was and is a process....
I started with five minutes a day..and it felt ..odd...and it felt even odder when I could feel a relationship with the Lord respond/develope ..in a beautiful way....God has always been there ..but this was like ..I cannot believe God loves me THIS much... I don't deserve this but ..and time and time again ...the miracles were put in my hand and it began with those small efforts of wanting to practice closeness

My vision is to think of God first thing in the morning with last thoughts are God in the evening just before sleep...and in the middle/ through the day...connecting with HIM.
Before I am out of bed.. I am in prayer. I try to see that the very first words I read are of God/Bible....I have a daily devotions emailed to my inbox as my work keeps me on the computer..so EVERY hour I am reading the word of God.

I try to have include a daily afternoon time for 30 minutes to an hour of deep prayer...devotion..meditation.(try :) )
and at night....again try to have an hour of prayer just before sleep
during the day I often find my thoughts drifting to God in praise or prayer...
If I am in transit Iam never without a mini Bible or meditation booklet
or even a card with a verse on it ..it is conscious daily hourly contact with God
on the one full day I teach...which is 9-2:30..I go to a church during my lunch hour for like five minutes to pray and light a candle...and at the end of the day I pass a different church on my way home to the subway and there I stop pray and put a prayer in the pray box ..open a bible and hymn......then a few minutes later I am on the subway home

by no means...a perfect walk.... but trying to move more and more to where it is praying without ceasing........and I DO feel the Lord and I do receive blessed astonishing answers to prayer...with me it's no longer a matter of choice at this point. Without Divine relationship which is personal, alive, and intimate and takes precedent over any other ..without that HOLY connection.... I am SO SO lost...I cannot emphasize that enough........ that for me it is survival and a peace that surpasses all understanding....

Below are email devotions that keep me connected along with an online bible .....
hth :)

Thanks Kayte, this is so true. Thanks for the links also. I appreciate you responding to my posts you always give me encouragement.

I don't spend enough time with Him. I have recently in the last two weeks or so made a decision to develop my relationship with him. I recently started taking an online class entitled, "Spirit filled living by the book" and this class along with reading the word and prayer have just really made me look at myself and my relationship with him. It truly is amazing how The Holy Spirit's guidance is so much more clear and how I've really been strengthened.

I use shower time to really go into prayer, praise and worship. I have a busy home, so it just allows me to unwind, give my mind totally to the Holy Spirit and let Him speak through me. But I also find myself through out the day praying about everything. It seemed silly at first, but God truly wants that constant connection with us.

Yet and still sometimes I'm sitting around doing nothing or doing something that could be put off until later and I know I should be using that time in meditation.

:yep:I spend time with the Lord every day. I spoke in tounges today for the FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE:yep: I Cried, I feel so tired now I want to continue to do it! God is Good All the Time!

Oh congratulations!!! I know how wonderful that feels.

ETA: God usually wakes me up around 3 am to pray and I try and pray during the day as needed. I also just try and talk to Him sometimes, in the shower, when I'm driving in the car ect. I worship Him by singing and speaking His word throughout the day. I really love praise and worship music so it's constantly playing throughout the house while I'm cleaning or cooking. I like to do mini bible studies each week. Right now I'm focusing on learning the Fruit of the Spirit for the next few weeks. I also pray for the desire to pray and read His word especially when things start getting too routine or seem like a chore.

The Fruit of the Spirit, that sounds interesting. I would like to study that myself, what scriptures are you currently reading? I just recently purchased a book "How to Study the Bible for yourself" by Tim Lahaye.

I spend everyday. I am learning more and more about what praying without ceasing really means. I have small children and we pray together throughout the day. I pray to myself silently. I am always talking to God. After the sermon I heard yesterday on Psalm 115, I am now ready to work toward selfless prayers so that instead of constantly praying for things to make my life "look" better, I want to pray prayers that will make God get the glory out of it so that more people will come to him. I study the Bible nearly everyday, whether it is online or by just sitting and reading. I just started a thread for anyone interested in a Bible Study here. I have to stay in relationship with God as much as possible, because my flesh is weak(sex, alcohol, partying, foul language, money, material things of luxury and comfort). i'll admit it, there is not too much in this world that I use to do that I can overcome on my own, so the best way I keep my self is to let God do it for me by staying in communion with him and allowing the Spirit to guide me. It's hard, and sometimes I feel like I have opened a can of worms because the least little thing can get me convicted in the spirit right quick.

Galations 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

I decided to break each individual "fruit" down and into sections. This week I am focusing on love

Love and our relationship with God
1 John 4:16 And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him.

Romans 8:39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

1John 4:20 If anyone says, "I love God," yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen.

Our love for God
Deuteronomy 6:5 Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.

1John 5:3 This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome

The (second) greatest commandment
Mathew 22:39 'Love your neighbor as yourself.

Luke 6:35 But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.

God's love for us
John 15:13 Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

And then I journal and do life application.

I continually keep in contact with God. If I am getting too distracted about something this makes me realize that I am not in contact with Him. It's like a continual conversation with Someone whom I love and respect very much. I MUST keep continual contact with Him. I need Him that much and He helps me so much and He never lets me down.:yep::yep:

Like charmingt and plainj; I also talk to Him all the time.

My mom pointed out to me that we, Christians shouldn't have "bad days, months or years". Just bad minutes or hours - Gods grace and mercy enables us to cast our cares on Him, which is a tremendous gift! Not even the best/brightest mental health practioners will allow us to dump our problems on them to that extent, but God does anytime of the day or night.

For that I'm eternally grateful, and it makes me seek His counsel all day long.

I try to spend most of my day with God somehow, whether it's prayer, speaking about him or just reflection. On my drive in to work, while i'm cleaning, watching service, in Church, discussing God with my children, etc.

I am more spontaneous when it comes to spending time with God but i'm trying to discipline myself to going to him early in the morning for my daily teachings.

Sometimes I spend so much time with him that the Enemy starts to send me messages that i'm weird or crazy...like i'm talking to myself but I :lachen::lachen: at him for that now because I know better. He is the crazy one:yep:.

All day long, either rejoicing, talking, ignoring or complaining ahahaha! I'm imperfect, you see? LOL. At some point, God is always in the equation.

Maybe 15-20 minutes a day, usually when I'm about to retire for the night. I find my sleep to be more peaceful as a result.
