Im confused.

We all have to make a living for ourselves to eat, clothes, shelter ect....So we have to work

How much money are you supposed to try and make?

How much are you allowed to express your personal style/desires with what clothes you want to wear, how you want to eat, the house you live in ect?

How successfull are you supposed to aim to be in this world? Are we supposed to have a personal style/taste, or way we want to live or look?

ETA- I Guess im asking- How does God want us to live in the world?

Last winter, my DH lost his job due to revenge for filing a workman's comp claim against his company a few years ago. A strange series of little events led to a trivial thing which the company used to justify their decision. The next few months were a hard lesson into the workings of the gov't. During that time, DH grew despondent, gained weight and forced to listen to mass quantities of sermons had played. He analyzed the events leading up to his firing (which got changed to laid-off to avoid a lawsuit) and saw the Hand of Our Father at work to get him out of that horrible place.

While helping him to find a new job, I sent his resume to temp services and one bit. The pay was much less than what he earned through unemployment with few benefits, so naturally, he would not even consider it. Imagine my surprise when he decided to do the interview. He said something told him to take this job, any job, claimed his subconscious outsmarted him. :ohwell:

Today, he weights less than when he had his accident; we still have food, shelter, clothes, etc.; and his relationship with the Father is better than it was (though not great). God lets him know in subtle ways He has DH right where He wants him. Financial problems are still an issue, but I am not worried for He is with us.

The main lesson learned: give everything to the Lord--wants, fears, sins, self, everything--and let Him work it out. If you are His, He will break you until you get it. Remember, this world is not our home, but our place of refinement. We are to get to the point when we desire of His Kingdom, not here. Once you get to that point, nothing else matters and you might even receive want you have desired within His will. Don't you want that freedom?

God wants us to live holy, upright, and pure (Christ-like). All the material things of this world do not matter. It's only temporary. While on this Earth, live within your means, within your budget. In other words, don't try to overspend and don't try to overwork yourself. Be content with what you have. Enjoy your life. Don't worry about what other people think as far as your success, appearance, and possessions. As long as your love for God exceeds your love for money, you are good. "Be anxious for nothing" (Philippians 4:6) and "Do not let your heart be troubled" (John 14:1).

Wonderful questions fluffylocks. I hope I can help some. If you don’t understand or would like to question anything. Reply back or feel free to PM me:yep: Think about those things in the sense of how they reflect on Jesus. Are they honoring him? Are others able to see his greatness and goodness through them? When you love somebody, you are concerned with their well being first and foremost.

How much money are you supposed to try and make? There is not a set dollar amount we are supposed to try to make. Not everyone can handle wealth. God knows we use money as a tool to get the things we need to survive as well as for things we simply enjoy and he is more than fine with that. The problem comes when we love money and make it or the acquisition of it an idol God. We cannot get so wrapped up in making money until we do things like neglect personal time w/ God or family. Ignore ppl all around us who have needs we can meet. Stop attending church regularly b/c we lived beyond our means or we borrowed money to get that degree (which costs more than our salary from the job itself:rolleyes:) and are in so much debt until we have to work longer hours and are out of balance in our lives etc. We should nottry to do so. Trying in this sense often leads to leaning on your own understanding (abilities and reasoning from a human and therefore flawed/ limited standpoint).

How much are you allowed to express your personal style/desires with what clothes you want to wear, how you want to eat, the house you live in etc? I'd say a lot! But like anything else a person should pray and ask for guidance in these areas too. God does care about the clothes we wear, how our homes look, and he didn't make us all alike on purpose so individuality is encouraged by him. He does want to be included in all areas. He does know and want what we would/should want for ourselves if we only were smart enough to ask for it. For the Christian, our bodies do not belong to ourselves but were bought with a price. Sometimes that can be a bitter pill to swallow :ohwell:. We are supposed to constantly changing into Christ’s image. That’s why we don’t put everything on display just cause we got ‘it’ or under some false sense of liberation. The food we eat should be enjoyed but in moderation like anything else. That’s why we have taste buds. God is a god of decency and order. We should be a ppl of decency and order. A lack of control in any area is a sign of immaturity. Mature ppl know how to delay gratification.

How successful are you supposed to aim to be in this world? I guess that depends on who you are trying to please and how you define success (which will be influenced by who you are trying to please). My personal answer to that question has evolved over time. The ppl who influenced me in my 20s don't carry that same weight now.

Are we supposed to have a personal style/taste, or way we want to live or look? Yes, God could have made us all the same but he did not. He did that on purpose. It gives us a glimpse of his creativity among other things. He gives us the desires of our hearts. He places those desires there. If we commune with him and allow him to he refines them. Improves and perfects them. If we do not commune we go wild. Hearts are broken. Lives are destroyed and worse we make excuses and seek approval from the unwise causing the cycle to perpetuate from generation to generation.

ETA- I Guess I’m asking- How does God want us to live in the world? He wants us to live peaceably as much as possible. To have our priorities in order with him 1st. To learn what it really means to love him totally and to walk in love with others. To seek him first b/c when we do so all of the things you have asked about will be shown to us what and how and how much etc by him. To be in this world fully aware of the goings on and system but not of it since it is really jacked up and on an eventual course of destruction. We ought to prosper and be in good health even as our souls do the same. After we have taken care of our families, church matters, etc, we should use the extra to cheerfully help others.
The passage below basically sums up many of your questions.
Matthew 6:24-34 (New International Version)
24"No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.
Do Not Worry
25"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life[a]?
28"And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' 32For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
