OOOOOOOOOOH!!! Me! Me!
I am proud to annouce: ONCE so far this year! and ONE MORE to go!
(this is from a previous 2x per month flat ironer [sometimes more] which was wrecking my hair)
Yay!
I've used heat 20+ times so far this year, and my hair is great.
ETA: Dang, I'm getting PMs from this post!
... To clarify, this is not to say I support excessive heat usage. I've used heat frequently this year, but not much. I haven't been straightening the heck out of my hair. Most of the heat I've used is to blow out my roots (from roller sets while stretching) with a blow dryer on low or medium for 5 minutes, or to flat iron the roots after roller sets or braid outs, or to flat iron my edges only - things like that. I rarely use heat on my entire length unless I am going to the salon, which is only once every couple months.
I've used flat irons around 20+ times this yearand my hair has definately paid the price, I've trimmed off about 5-6 inches of split ends and have started roller setting. I can see a huge improvement and intend to stay away from heat for a very long time. Once the condition of my hair has returned to a healthy state, I may grant myself a few heat passes for special ocasions.
I cant believe that it is Sept already and I have only used direct heat (flat iron) twice this year!!!!!!!! And I dont plan on usin heat for the rest of the year!
My whole head - Not even once
The hair I leave out in the front - Too many times to count. I use heat a lot in that area to blend with my half wigs. I've cut back for the summer though.
Maybe about 4 or 5 times, just to check length stretch out the hair and have straight hair occasionally. I'm trying not to use it too much though, in case of heat damage. Last time I flat ironed my hair the other week it was dry erplexed, so um, I've gotta do something about that.
I voted none. I haven't used heat other than a hooded dryer since 2004. When I was going to the salon, I would got to a dominican salon and get rollersets. No blowdrying my roots to make them straighter though, those blowdryers were incredibly hot and I felt that the ultra straightness wasn't necessary.
oops...I remembered I has some cornrows done a couple weeks back and my roots were lightly blowdried. Okay, once this year then.
Me neither LOL! I use heat every 3-4 weeks although less in the summer because I get my hair braided for swimming. I haven't used heat in almost a month and it will be another month before I get my hair flat ironed again.
I hot-curled my hair once for a funeral. I had gotten a rollerset the day before & went out that night & my hair was a mess so I had to pull out m mom's curlers to touch it up for the funeral.
I did it about 11 times this year (flat ironed 3 times, conair hot sticks twice, blow dried twice, DC'd with heat about 3-4 times) to see if I could get away with it. Well, I can't.
The previous 2 years I was natural under lace wigs and hadn't used any heat at all during that time and my hair thrived. Anywho, now I know that my hair HATES heat so I will only do it from now on for length/trim checks after a relaxer touch up. I plan on never doing it again just for styling. I'm addicted to the thickness I get from not using heat.
