And what did you do to correct it and get your hair back healthy?

What precautions do you do now to keep this from happening again?

Thanks.

I had overprocessed hair. I knew it was overprocessed because when dry it felt like straw.

As for precautions: I haven't permed since January 07. I had planned to transition but I am seriously considering texlaxing. Since January I have babied my hair (treated it like fine silk-especially the ends). I've kept it in protective styles, moisturized daily, and stepped up my deep conditioning game. It is now healthier than ever.

If I do texturize or ever use chemicals again, I will protect my already processed hair with some kind of oil when I'm am processing my new growth. Additionally, If I do use a chemical again I plan to seriously underprocess so that I still have some texture.

Honestly, a lot of my hair still IS overprocessed! :ohwell: I'm a newbie, so I have just recently learned about how to take care or my hair the proper way. I am guilty of having my entire length of hair relaxed at TOUCH-ups. There's no real distinct difference between my overprocessed hair and the rest of my hair, except it is pretty bone straight when wet. I am basically growing my hair out and will cut periodically to continue to get rid of this overprocessed hair.

I still have some overprocessed hair! I just keep doing deep conditioning treatments, doing protein and putting moisturizers on it. I just baby it to the best of my ability... I also dust the ends to slowly get rid of it...but not much trimming at all. It has come a long way...but me and my hair still got a looooong way to go:grin:!

I had a headfull of overprocessed hair. It had no elasticity at all. It was also bone straight which equals breakage for me.

I ended up cutting it all off and wore my hair natural for a few years. I returned to relaxing one year ago and my hair is flourishing. This time around I use a mild relaxer which still leaves some curl to the hair (texlaxed) and I haven't had any problems with breakage/growth since.

My hair was severely overprocessed in May, 2004. I didn't cut it, only because I never had hair shorter than shoulder length and I really didn't know what happened to my hair at the time. It was because of Affirm, no lye, in mild mind you. My hair just breaks down very easily.

To get through it, I started stretching for 5 months+ at a time because I was going to transition to natural. But I found the boards and realized I could have healthy hair by texlaxing/texturizing. So I started having my hair texturized in February 2005 and I've been stretching relaxers for 5 months minimum since then. When my hair is texturized, I have the same person apply it and he leaves it on for no more then 5 minutes. There's no combing whatesoever, he just applies with his fingers and works through the new growth.

This has honestly been the best thing that I've done for my chemically treated hair. Looking back, I don't think I would have cut it off because at the end of the day, I was able to maintain a length I was comfortable with. That's just me though, others would probably chop it off.

When I began my hair journey in 2005, I had SEVERLY overprocessed hair. This is because I would relax every 2-4 weeks and also because I never gave my hair the proper moisture is needed:nono:. My hair was very porous and would snap off at the slightest pull!
What I did was I began to protect my ends w/ the baggy method and use protein treatments every week. I also did strong protein treatments every 6 weeks and made sure to DC every week (my mon gave me a dryer that x-mas and it helped ALOT!). I also began strecthing out my relaxers to 3-5 months at a time w/ the help of sew-in weaves. After every relaxer, I would either trim/ dust off some of the overprocessed ends.

My hair is overprocessed now. I have about 4 inches of thin ends that need to be cut but I will trim off about 1/2 inch per month. Also I plan on self relaxing because it seems like stylists like to overlap.

I think this was the main reason for my hair problems. I found LHCF and started doing prepoos, deep conditioning, conditioner washing, and oil rinsing. I really had to work on my moisture and these all helped. I also started moisturizing and sealing with oil daily. As far as the overprocessing, I started waiting longer between touchups. I make sure to prep my hair thoroughly before relaxing, especially with silk. I apply it to my hair before relaxing. Adding Neutral Protein Filler and oil to my relaxer has also helped. My hair is in much better condition post-relaxer now. My nape and edges have always been a problem, so I do them last. For a while, I was only doing them at every other touch up. This really helped. I am going to start that again, to maintain my current healthy state.

My ends are overprocessed. I changed stylists. My fmr one was lying about which relaxer she was putting in.

I'm in the process of cutting it out and then I'll be fine.
