How many braids for a braidout w/ shoulder length

I'm going to try going my first braid out tonight but I don't want another disaster like I had w/ my bantu knot set. How many braids would you recommend doing for a shoulder length braidout? I want it curly but not like an afro. I normally just do a wash n go but my new growth isn't allowing for the textures to blend together well and I'm extending my texturizer (considering transitioning).

Any advice about products to use & methods (air-dry, under the dryer, combo of both) would also be helpful.

TIA

I used 15 with shea butter and sponge rollers at the ends. The waves were small, refer to my june album...

It has more to do w/your hair (natural, texturized, relaxed) and how you want it to look than the length. Since my hair is so lightly texturized and very dense, if I do fewer than 7 I have kinky crinkles that take ages to dry. I've done as many as 19 individual (not cornrow) braids to arrive at something that looks very much like a natural wave/curl pattern. It looks like just like Amel Larrieux's hair in your avatar.

I'm currently doing flat twists for twist-outs, 9 in the front. I braid the back for extra control and so that the textures match, w/4-5 braids. It kinda looks like a loose natural straw set, more like old Amel Larrieux hair, back when it had more bulk.

Thanks. I'm texturized and a 3b/c so I have curls. I'm just trying to get the curls to match since I have about 2" of new growth right now.

I'll tell you about the braid pattern that gives me the best braidouts.

Make six braids total.
-part hair in the middle up to the crown
- make two braids (cornrows) on either side of the part following your hairline (from the top of your head down to your ears - almost like ram horns)
-then for the remaining hair make four cornrows braiding straight back.

Hope that made sense and HTH.

It also matters how much hair you have. I seem to be follicularly challenged

so there are areas that don't have a serious density. I can work a braid out with just two braids (yes I said only two

) . My hair is bra strap lenghth and what I have is healthy just not alot

I make 4 braids going towards the back of my head so my waves are bigger but not huge. I do my braids on airdried hair for looser waves. You can check out my album for examples.

My mom put 6 cornrows in my shoulderlength hair (I can't cornrow for nothing) and my braidout came out pretty decent! :yep:
