Doesn't hair shed every day, all your life? Hence the saying, "it's normal to shed 50-100 hairs per day"... Or did I miss something?

From what I understand, at any one time, about 90% of your hair is growing while 10 percent is resting. At the end of the resting period that hair is shed and a new growth cycle begins in the follicles from which it was shed.

And so if I'm right about that, then I'd say the shedding period lasts forever.

Allandra and Nonie are both correct. However, while it may be "normal" for some to lose 50-100 hairs a day, some may shed less hair and some may shed more. It all depends on the inner workings of the body (i.e., stress, medications, allergies, food intake, lack of water, etc.). If you think you see anything excessive for YOU, see your doctor for a complete physical.
