I was just wondering how long it took you ladies to become completely natural? I'm only 3 months post and I just dont know anymore, I know have a long way to go :ohwell:

How long it takes is up to you....whenever you decide to chop your relaxed ends off, your hair will be all natural. I chopped off my relaxed ends after 5 mths of transitioning. :yep:

I became natural when I had 1/2 inch of New Growth I just did a BC and then I was AU NATURAL!! So in about a month and a half I became totally natural. Once those Relaxed ends are gone and all you have is your natural hair then VOILA!!!! AU NATURAL!!!

i transitioned for 13 months till i BC'd and had a good amoun of groth....I never had a TWA.....i don't know how many inches I started out wiht though.

I transitioned for almost 9 months. My relaxed ends were doing more harm than good to my natural hair. I'm glad I BC!

Good luck to you!

That totally depends on you. I chose not to big chop when I went natural and transistioned for over 2 years so it took a long time to be completely natural.

I have since gone back to relaxing though.

I'm going on month 14 of my transition. The goal is to cut the relaxed ends off when I have enough natural hair to pull into a bun/puff.

You will know when you're ready.

I'm trying to transition again for the second time and I have a long way to go to.

I agree with the bolded statement. I started itching to cut(beginning of 8th month) like a drug addict. I couldn't take it anymore, so I snipped.

I really tried to transition for as long as I could, and I didn't think I could do the Big Chop, but it wasn't as bad as I had anticipated! I have about 4.5 inches and I'm working with it! I love being all natural and I'm glad I BC when I did.

I was in for the long haul..about 2 years. But i was busy with school and planning a wedding so the time went by so fast I didn't notice.

I transitioned for 14 months. When I did the b/c I had just enough hair to pull back in a small curly puff.

i agree with the others you will definitely know when you're ready! it's a very personal decision. i thought i was going to do a long transition but i couldn't deal with the two textures so i just got fed up one day and chopped away! i had a very TWA after transitioning for about 2 months! loved it and i never looked back!

I transitioned (held on to my relaxed ends) for a little over 7 months before chopping the relaxed ends off.

Thanks ladies for all your replies. I forgot that I started this thread:) I guess I'll just have to see how my progress goes

i'm in it for the long haul too, it gets very irritating having two textures, but i want to be able to make a small ponytail before i bc, this is going on my 14th month. good-luck to ya. like everyone has said, you'll know when the time is right for you to bc. this is my second and final time transitioning, the first time i did it for about 9 months and then bc'd. i loved my twa, this time i'm gonna try to wait but i'm starting to get the bc itch. we'll see how it goes.

I cut my hair in less than 6 months and haven't looked back. :) A long transition was not for me. I was ready to be fully natural asap! I've seen some people cut completely without a transiton and others hold out until there was nothing but little relaxed ends left. Still, It's up to you to decide how long you want your trasition to be. Either 1 week or 1 year, it's your decison and good luck!
