Hello!!! It's so nice to see other Canadians here!! :wave:You guys should move to BC (Vancouver) we hardly get snow. Your hair will thank you for it.

My nape is about 7 or 8 inches. It used to be the shortest & most frustrating part, now it's the longest and softest. Don't ask me how, but my hair just did a 180 on it's own. The back mutated into a 3c, but the rest of my head may as well be a 4z :lol:. Anyway, I try to keep my hair braided during winter (I prefer a style w/ cornrows, like a weave), so even with all the toques, scarves, and jackets, there's not as much friction. Good luck!

My nape is my ONLY problem area. It is finer / softer texture than the rest of my natural hair and breaks easily! :perplexed

I noticed this morning that even my wigs get jacked up (tangled) at the nape - which leads me to think that I have to do something if I want to retain any length in this area.

Any sugguestions are welcome!
 
Hmm...what an interesting topic. My nap is the same length as the rest of my hair, but I treat it with extra TLC cause it can be dry. I put my Mizani h2o on it a lot more than the rest of my hair, and I try to avoid combing it unless I use a wide tooth comb. Definately fragile...I feel blessed that it's keeping up with the rest of my hair.

longer than the rest of my hair :mad: i wish all of my head was as long as my nape. i have like 3 inches in the front and u can see the back in my siggy :look:
 
From the middle of my ears down is barely bra-strap lenght. It's always been shorter than the rest of my hair. I get that from dad's side of the family.
 
:perplexed I was just wondering the same thing. My nape I think it a little bit shorter than the rest...however, like others mentioned, the curl patter is much looser and it tends to come out of cornrows and braids and rub against my jackets (I live in upstate NY). Neway, I think I'm just gonna have to start overmoisturising and hope for the best.
 
So glad this thread was started. My nape is about 3-4 inches due to a relaxer fiasco in February where ALL my hair fell out in the nape.

My hair is just past shoulder length and I really want the nape area to grow in. So suggestions please. I see that someone recommended H2O. Perhaps I can try that.

The rest of my hair is growing in so beautiful. I know patience really is the key.

The nape takes a beating for sure. I feel you on the short neck LOL! As for having to wear coats or hats etc. Go ahead and throw a pretty silk scarf around your shoulders and extend over thescarf over the neck of your coat or jacket. This will protect your hair from the fibers of your coat or jacket which rubs and snaps your nape hair. It's a pain sometime (scarf slides) but worth it.

My nape is about 3 or 4 inches. It's the longest it's ever been. I used to baby it a lot but I got lazy over the last couple months. Now it's breaking again, especially on the left side. I'm trying to keep it braided to grow it out more.
 
It is shorter than the rest of my hair BUT I did cut it in like Jan or Feb because it was so damaged, its about an inch plus shorter than the rest of my hair
 
My nape is 4 inches long and hasn't been this long in years :perplexed My temples are also a problem area for me. So I started moisterizeing these areas before I moisterized the rest of my hair. This way I could pay special attentin to my problem areas. My temples got thicker and longer also but even though my nape got longer it didn't get thicker. So I deceided to buy some Organic Root Stimulator Fertilizing Temple Balm. I'm just going to use it on my nape. I just got and the directions say to do a patch test on the first day then use twice a day. I'm supposed to start seeing results after 6-8 weeks. I would soooo love to have my nape area thick and bsl!!!! That is one of my dreams. So I hope this will help me get there.
 
Nape is 7-9" in some places. Had breakage due to heat earlier in the year and had to do a seek & destroy.
 
I thought I was the only one. The front part of my hair is twice as long as my nape. You would even think my hair was actually cut into a bob, but it just grows that way. Its kinda puts a cramp in my hair success, because you would think I have a good length of hair (from the front), but when I wear it all out you wonder, where did all the hair go :-((

As for my nape....can you say "ATE UP!" i'm at about 3-4 inches after last winter.
 
Can someone tell me exactly what area is the nape? I have an idea, but after reading the information here, I am not really sure.

My hair in the nape is about 4 inches. I've always experienced slow growth in the back, and I would like to know if some of y'all have some suggestions to what I can do about it. More (leave-in) conditioning?

My hair has never been long in the nape area...It's crazy. I have noticed that my friends who went natural..their nape area started to THRIVE..THRIVE I tell you, so hmm..maybe I will stop perming it as much. However, I must say..since being on boards such as this and LHFC it is now growing as well. It used to be soo nappy and now its one of the softest parts of my head. Could be the MSM...who knows.
 
I really don't know. its always been shorter on the sides than in the very back. the back is the same length as the rest of my hair, the sides are maybe 2-3 inches shorter than that.

Generally I don't worry about it because its always grown like that. As long as it full, healthy and don't looked chewed up its all good.
