How Long For Hair To Turnaround?

How many months do you think it takes hair to turnaround?

For example, I stopped using heat in January and continue to do all the good things (e.g., moisturize daily, deep condition, mild protein - AO GPB, vitamins, satin scarf, etc.), but my hair continues to break (clumps, little pieces, long strands) daily. I've been patient, but it seems my hair would have stopped breaking by now.

Typically, when you eliminate bad things from your regimen, when should you start noticing a change in your hair?

My regimen is in the "About Me" section of my Fotki.

Thanks!

I think it depends are how bad the damage is. For instance, relaxers were always overlapped prior to lhcf. Therefore, I think it might take me a whole year to recover completely without an aggressive cut.

Yeah i agree with Natalied. I joined LHCF back in Oct 2004 and think that my hair is doing pretty good especially since I abused it by overlapping relaxers and using heat everyday :perplexed . I refuse to have an aggresive trim and wont cut my hair until it is even all around my head.

As for the breaking in little bits or clumps...how often do you do lite protein treaments? For you they might be necessary every week along with the heavy protein (my fav is Nexxus Emergencee) every six weeks.

I usually use AO GPB weekly. The gels I use also contain protein (that's not what I use them for though).

I used to do the Aphoghee hardcore treatment every six weeks, but apparently that's a little too strong for naturals, so I cut out both the Aphogee treatment for damaged hair and the lighter Aphogee Keratin conditioner.

Have you tried Nexxus Emergencee...its alittle more gentler on the hair ( I have done both) ? Deep Conditioning treatments with heat 1-2 times a week?

Hmmm ... I've never tried Emergencee, I might give it a try soon and see if I notice a difference.

I think it would make a world of difference! I tried aphogee once and was NOT pleased. My breakage continued and I even think it got worse. Afterards just deep condition( preferably w/ heat) for at least 30 min. I normally have my eating cap for like an hour.

Maybe you are using too much protien, because for me that is the reason I did not see results for a long time even though I thought I was doin everything right. I first came to the forum after severe breakage due to using too much of a strong protein conditioner, I had to cut my hair off and it was growing back nicely, but for some reason even after having problems with it I was convinced my hair still needed protien so I used the light protien treatments, then the breakage started again right in the front where it had started the first time. So thats how I know that my hair does not like protien, because before I knew anything about protien treatments I never had problems with breakage, but I just figured that it would make my hair stronger (not the case with my hair). So maybe it would help if you just concentrated on moisturizing for awhile, I have been and my hair is doing ALOT better, i barely have any breakage now.

hmmmm, I'd probably put my hair in braids so as to avoid any manipulation. My hair has been really neglected and still breaks a bit but I noticed the softness (one I started moisturizing) after 2 months.

I've heard that Aphogee and other proteins really shouldn't be used more than every six months or so. Be careful. :naughty:

You should probably start seeing small differences right away. But to see any significant change or for your hair to make a complete turnaround, I'd say 6 months to a year minimum.

I also found that deep conditioning my hair each week caused my hair to break. This is because apparently deep conditioners also contain protein. For me although I stopped blow drying, started taking vitamins my hair would break and then just recently I cut my hair. I have since realised that my hair was breaking because I was not trimming it often enough and also oiling my hair everyday with wgho or just any oil I have has helped.

I tried Emergencee tonight followed by an hour under the hard bonnet dryer with Humectress, so I'll see what happens.

Thanks for all the advice ladies. ;)

I see that you seem to be doing everything possible, but I also agree that you are missing a Heavy Protein in your regimen.

I noticed improvements in my hair about 2 months after I really took charge of it. I personally do a protein treatment every week interchanging between Emergencee & EQP Breakage Control. This has been working for me drastically. I deep Condition every time & I wash or CW three times a week. I have a hot oil/cholesterol treatment everytime I wet my hair. This has worked magic for me so far! I also use Porosity to seal in my moisture!!

I would suggest Heavy Protein & Cholesterol treatments for you!!! They add Strength & Elasticity respectively back to your hair!
-HTH :look:

Hmmmm...I looked in my album and I think for me it took four months to see progress. I was trying different things weekly so it took awhile to find what worked for me. I started my new regimen (no heat, no caffeine, moisturizing daily) in April and by August I was getting a good amount of growth and thickness (though it was still uneven). I would give any regimen about four weeks before you give up on it and move onto something else. ;)

It really depends on the extent of damage. Is it the entire hair shaft or is it mainly the ends?

For me, it took a little under a month to get my hair into shape. No manipulation, cut damage/uneven ends and weekly treatments. I have the type of hair that can withstand weekly light protein treatments of ORS Mayo.
