How long do you have to leave products in to see the benefits?

I am trying to create my own regimen but I wanted to know if any one knew how long you have to keep certain products in your hair in order to see the benefits. I have heard that conditioner stops working after the time listed on the bottle but what about:

Castor Oil
Sulfur products
Growth Serums (like Bee Mine)
Coconut Oil

Do you have to just leave it in your hair until the next wash or can you leave them in for an hour or overnight and still reap the benefits?

Thanks

Great question!

I don't use serums so I have no experience with those.

I use castor oil mixed with olive oil on my scalp and hair almost each night. I don't wash my hair until the weekend. I think it can really depend on your hair type. I have type 4a hair, which drinks up a lot of oils and product, so I put oils like castor, olive or coconut oil on my hair almost every day and I don't need to wash them out until the weekend.

I've used MTG (a sulfur product) before and I only kept it in overnight because it is very heavy and oily and because the smell is so strong. I would put it in my hair, put on a shower cap and wrap a scarf around that and go to sleep. The next morning I would wash it out in the shower with a conditioner.

+1 on leaving MTG in overnight then washing out in the morning. I'm going to get the Bee Mine Serum too so I can leave it in when I want to try for 2nd day hair. The MTG just ruins everything with the smell!

When I use the Bee Mine consistently I can leave it in until my next wash IF I want to....however it is oily so I would co-wash every 3 days just to keep my hair from being too greasy. The smell is fine so there is no trouble there...
