I'm asking this because it seems like it's taking forever and a day to find something that my hair likes. Creme of Nature doesn't give the slip it used to. It started out good. So much slip that I didn't need a conditioner (still used one anyway). Now it's like as soon as it's washed out, it feels tangly. Same with conditioners. Breakthru doesn't dentangle anymore. Neither does Elucence. CPR acts like CON. I don't get it. It works fine for a week or two but then my hair just backfires on me. I'm getting really discouraged with this hair thing. My hair used to be so long (shoulder blade length) and THICK. It's still thick but never seems to grow past my neck area no matter how much I take care of it. Ok I'm babbling again lol....

It took me a year. The past year everytime I try something new wether it's a new product or a new technique I go back to the routine I estasblished a year ago. Out of all the new products I tried this year only 2 have been permanently added to my arsenal...Pantene Pro-V Smooth & Sleek and jojoba oil. I'm gonna try out the 'brush routine' this weekend...but if it doesn't work....I know I can go back to my current routine.

I stopped relaxing in the Summer/Fall of 2002. I needed a completely different routine because 10 weeks after my last touch-up my regular routine and my regular products were no longer effective. I'm still learning what to do!

Hey Jazzyfunknastee! Do you ever use a clarifying shampoo? I've been kind of feeling the same about my hair lately (maybe the past 2 weeks). My hair used to feel silkier and was less tangled than it's been lately. I was wondering if it could be because of product build up. I'm going to get a purifying/clarifying shampoo and then see if it makes a difference... you know starting with fresh clean hair. It may be that buildup is not allowing the products to do their job fully anymore. Maybe??

Don't get discouraged, it's just a small road block with probably a very simple explanation. Yeah... that's it.

I agree with this because I did a clarify shampoo last night with lemon juice...and my conditioner felt really soft....definitly try clarifying....

I found my routines about 3 1/2 years ago, but it took me 2 years to find them.

As a former PJ, you find out what works and what doesn't quickly when you have a closet full of products and you gotta get rid of them by trial and error...

I do clarify but it doesn't help. I use Elucence's clarifier. Maybe it's not doing the job properly and I need something stronger. Who knows...

From when I just started taking care of my hair to when I found the perfect matches for it took me about a year and a half. Anything else I use now is just to try (and that't not very often) and usually things I try work well for me.

I would hate for everything I try to work well. Then I would be so confused as to what prodcut I love best and which one to use....

I like when products don't work because it seems like I'm closer to getting everything down.

Twisted huh?

It took me a few years to find a hair care routine that works for me (not to get hair care routine confused with hair care products - because I'm sure I will always experiment with different hair care products every once in a while).

I think she is referring to Tracee Ellis Ross's hair regime. A brush and lots of conditioner in the shower... let me see if I can find it...

It took me about a month....I started my regime Sept. 1, 02.
I've gained 6.5" since then, so (THANK U JESUS) I didn't have to go through the "trial & error" phase for an extended amount of time just to find a "keeper" regime that agrees with my hair.

God Bless,
Peachtree

Yes I was...thanks for bumping that up for her UmSumayyah
I saw the results of this brushing on another hairsite and I must say it looked really nice. I'm trying this tomorrow morning...

Before finding LHCF...Or after...I would say that I have the basics down as far as the general practice: preshampoo-shampoo-deep condition-condition-serum-leavein-rollerset. And I use the same products, but I do use new ones occasionally. I'm always afraid that there's something better and I'm missing out on it. And I'm afraid of some things not working as well after I continue to use them.

I used to suffer from that too Jazzy. I think you should alternate with something for a bit and then return to the Creme of Nature. There was something posted before about products not working as well after a long time of use without alternating. That doesn't explain the other products you used that didn't work after only two weeks tho'

My core hair care routine...I would say about a year. And, for refining that, about another 6 months.

I'm still looking for mine. Unfortunately being here with a board full of product junkies doesn't help.

I am always tempted to try every new product of the week. For the most part, I have curved my spending, but that still leaves me with a clean slate and thousands of products and techniques to choose from!

Ditto. Though of late I've found some products that are now permanent in my regime. I'm really glad about that.

I agree with whomever(sorry dont remember who
blush.gif
)said that routine is different from products you like.

For me, the routine took years to get into and actually have it work!
The products....I have my staples listed, but every once in a while, I will find something I like better and go with that(like I was one of main the financial supporters of Suave Lavender Conditioner....Now I am going to be helping the folks at VO5 with their bills and profit, because I am in LOOOOOVE with their Kiwi/Lime and Freesia Conditioners!!!)

Hmmmm, I wonder if I worked for their company, if I would be able to get half my pay in conditioners????

Great Post!
Well I have the core products that I KNOW perform consistently on hand now, so i guess that's what has led me to narrow down my regime.
I have a schedule of what is needed and when and I try to stick to it, unless my hair is screaming for something else. All my products cost less than $10, which was another goal in finding my current regime. The only hole i have in my regime as of now is finding a good reconstructor that erforms weel w/o heat, and can do the job in less than 15 mins.... Aphogee is looking good now, but i might just go back to CPR (i hate getting in and out the shower

*Big sigh of relief*
I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one without a consistent routine. I think my problem is that I'm too much of a PJ. I see the tempting descriptions in the product details and I'm off experimenting. I'm surprised that I have as much hair as I have. I have been staying away from the blowdryer, so I've eliminated that from my routine. It doesn't help that my Mom works in a salon. I'm always tempted to try something new.
