how long between semi-perms?

I went to the salon today to get a relaxer touch-up and to get a new semi-perm. Unfortunately, I had a lot of the old magenta color left and they said they couldn't really strip it and deposit a whole lotta new color in so they did the best they could to get out the magenta color and put in a little dark brown (close to my natural shade but richer) to establish a baseline color and tone down the magenta which I can still see on a few strands!... but I was kinda disappointed since I really wanted a cinnamon color today. I asked the stylist if this baseline color had to be stripped the next time I went to them for a new color and she said no. How long should I wait before I either do colourshines or jazzing myself? Could I do it this weekend or should I wait 2 weeks? Thanks for info!

Any color you put over the deepish brown you just got will be affected by the color you have now. You will need to remove that color, in addition to any magenta you have in to see a cinnamon color of any kind.

I say apply Revlon Metalex or Clairol UnColor for Semipermanents (or both) two times or so between now and the nbext two weeks or so. That will remove as much of your current and former semi-perm as possible and then you can apply another color (the exact shade will depend on the base color you end up with) once you have removed what you have now and what you put on before.

You could just apply a cinnamon like color over what you have now, but what you already have in the way of color will affect the outcome of any new rinse you put over the two you had before.

Say that three times fast... /images/graemlins/laugh.gif /images/graemlins/laugh.gif /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I envy you... My colorshines applications last one wash if lucky... I use it to cover my grey. and it literally lasts one wash.

Wow, I talk about this a lot, don't I? /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Another... Another post about removing color

As to the time question (how long you should wait, which I don't think I answered clearly) you can wait a week between color removal applications (you should do two of these) and apply the new color immediately when you are done removing your color if you wanted to. So that would be two weeks. The same two week space would apply even if you didn't remove any color because the brands of color you recommended have no ammonia or peroxide and do not require the same precautions as permie color. I only suggest the two weeks because it would give some time for the color to wash out on it's own some if that was all you wanted to do about removing color. But you hair doesn't need to be stripped unless you use a black color. That's the only time stripping should even be discussed and even then if your hair is relaxed it is an absolute no-no. Your hair will disintegrate almost immediately. Believe me - I know. /images/graemlins/blush.gif

Hey thanks for the tips. In your pic, what color were you using? I really like it although I might go with something darker/deeper, like a burnt sienna type color. I was looking at the Colourshines and couldn't decide between redissimo, redality or cinnamon based on the color chart. I want more of a brownish red than an orange red. Question about application: qhen you apply Adore at home, did you use a brush or just work it in with your heads and comb through? Since I'll be doing it at home, I want to figure out the best way to get it all in since my hair is thick...
