how long are the braid and twist wearers waiting before your take downs. I have gone, for the first time, as long as 6 weeks.

Regimen: washing every week with a cut-off stocking on my head,
diluted conditioner, wait 3-5 mins rinse
apply a mix of coconut oil/ORS twist lock gel/bee-mine curly butter.
Put on a silk scarf, and facial masque
Sit under the dryer on high for 15 minutes then medium for 20 mins.

Comes out great every time. But after week 5, the corn rows start to get a little on the fuzzy side.

i showed my beautician my hair after 4 weeks, and she was surprised.

She was telling me that i could only wash every 2 weeks. I work out and jog a lot, ladies. I cannot imagine the smell of sweat in my hair for 2 weeks. one week is more than enough.

A lot of new-to-braids folks follow the http://www.growafrohairlong.com/braidreg.html regimen of going 2 months at a time, but redoing edges as the need arises.

I keep braids in forever, redoing one at a time as needed. Twists, I keep them in about 4 weeks but some unravel when I wash so I redo them. I then start redoing one at a time till all are freshly done, but since I don't do it all in one sitting, some may be on my head way longer than 4 weeks before I get to them.

whoa! they said that cornrow with extensions should only be left in 2 weeks at a time, or they will be severely matted. Strange, i've been wearing cornrows for the last the 3 take downs. with no problem past 2 weeks.

The first take down was after a month. No problems.

Second take down was also in a month.

This last take down is a 6 weeker. I get my hair re-done on the 19th. Maybe it's because i'm a slow grower, or something?

I have twists in now.. I usually keep them in for a month take them down, rest for a week and then re-do. I use extensions with my twists.. I washed my hair today without the stocking cap and it hurt so bad.. the twists were so heavy on my head.. I will never forget my cap again. I have 2 more weeks til takedown. But, I will be redoing the edges this week.
