Elasticity can be lost when your hair has been overprocessed, dyed with chemicals, when it dries out eg if you have braids in for long periods and don't moisturize or wash them or keep the hair moist.

Hair that lacks elasticity would break easily once manipulated.

To get it back, you would have to keep it moisturized, deep condition it twice weekly for example, steam it....use moisturizing products on the hair and oils to seal in the moisture once it is wet and before it dries. All this will bring the moisture back into the hair strands.....I've had this problem and that's what i did to bring the hair back.....Personally, I also find that washing the hair 2-3 times a week helps to keep it moist...I add olive oil to the hair after first coating my ends with conditioner.

The hair loses elasticty when it's damaged... you can have heat, chemical and mechanical (caused by combing and brushing harshly or the wrong kinds of pnythail holders and barettes.) damage.

Keeping your hair at the right pH (nuetralizing your hair properly, using acv rinses/ acidifying conditioners) and using protein conditioners and reconstructors help to improve elasticity.

OMG, I feel so stupid! :lachen:

Thanks for the advice

Everything the other ladies said about damage causing your hair to loose it's elasticity. Deep conditioning protein treatments 2 x weekly will help, also moisturize at least once a day! ;)

I agree with the others.

A deep conditioner at least once a twice (2x if you are lacking moisture) is great
**adding a little milk to your deep condition works very good for restoring elasticity ;)

Try Kenra moisturizing poo and conditioner, they are very good for maintaining elasticity...when I was completely relaxed, breakage was rarely a problem for me

I didnt post this question but I wanted to say thanks for the advice ...... :notworthy

I was about to ask the same question too. My hair has become so lifeless, thin an cottony since I did a weave for about 2 months. The hair is not dry but very very cottony like baby's hair. Now i am thinking if I put more moisterizers/water isn't going to worse? Do you think I should cut it all off or are there products that can help bring it back to life ? Please advise.

No I don't think you should cut it all off but I think you should do an aphogee treatment!!

Abusing your hair with heat, inadequate conditioning and the use of mineral oils/petroleum products, all can help hair to loose elasticity and become brittle. I recently started to incorporate ACVs & an Apoghee 2 Min Reconstructor, with my weekly deep condition. My hair is now healthier, softer, holds moisture and I am now experiencing shrinkage. I have found that this balance of protein and moisture works well for my hair.
