How do your friends feel about you and your hair care?

My close friends were all excited when I told them about the board and what I'd found. They have visited and learned a lot.
My family however, have accused me of turning every conversation into a hair conversation, but did actually take me seriously - they're so wonderful really. They have become properly interested in it for the first time. They always had healthy thick looking hair, but needed to overcome the length problem.

There are a new formed group of girls at my church, who are haters and thought that what I was doing was rubbish and that 'you could never get your hair to be thick and long - and I would need a weave!' LOL! they make me laugh.

Well I finally flatironed my hair for my birthday, which was a sabbath and they couldn't even talk to me, just stared. I could feel the hate. And it was only neck length (I have a long neck)- but it was thick, shiny and healthy for the first time in 2 years. Now they are on a stealth mission to ask me what I do.

Seeing my progress a few weeks back, the same friend is considering joining. She cant keep her hands out of my hair and she keeps commenting about how thick it is. She also keeps saying i should flaunt it more...My repeated Repeated answer?

My friends/family think it's a joke because I get my hair @ APL and then I cut it like Hallee Berry in Bomerang, this is an every year thing with me. So they think it's me just being me. My hair usually gets really long in the summer and I get irritated and cut it. In the winter I want it back, so I get braids and wear other protective up do styles and then I hate it because I am in the in between stages and either cut it or complain until it is bob level (this is wear I am now). This time however I am serious, I want long, healthy beautiful hair and will stop at nothing to get it. My husband thinks I am crazy because I buy something new for my hair like every week.

My friends think that I'm totally obsessed with hair but when they need advice they come to me and family outside of my household hardly ever see my hair down but when I wear it down they're always complimenting my hair and wanting to know what I'm doing. My husband would say that my hair was going to fall out with all the things I was doing to it (deep con, con washes, hot oil treatment etc.) until he saw it growing and now he loves it and supports whatever I do.

My roommate probably thinks that I have a serious problem. I think I'm in the early stages of PJism because I have something new every week. I never wear my hair out, and I wash it atleast once a week. She's always trying to get me to try styles but I won't budge lol.. What about you guys?

My Honey is proud of my efforts and hair improvements, he encourages my knowledge as he also is benefitting with his beautiful hair. The one friend at work who knows about LHCF thinks I'm obsessed and need to stop the supplements--facial hair frowing faster {waxing is my answer!} Others have bought ORS products and have fallen back to awful hair habits. Another poo-pooed my advice for her disappearing hairline, went to a dermatologist who told her not to wash her hair as often as I suggested or moisturize as often then prescribed birth control pills for the growth; her hair dresser told her to come to her more often for further erosion!!

I'm with you.. I hurts to have doubter/haters around especially in the beginning when you are all excited. I haven't seen a friend of mine since she made the comment ...so now you are the hair expert?" We will see who the expert is.... anyway... the other day I had someone doubt that my hair grows 4-5 inches a year!! he says, "Well if that was true you would have at least 12 inches by know since you've been growing for 3 years?" It hurt because I know the difference between growing and retaining let alone set backs! 2006 was spent cutting out layers... anyway I say let the haters hate on. I'll have the last laugh. I have moooooore stories but I'll stop there.

No one listens to my tips except my mother. She jots down each product and tries them. She finally let me do her relaxer for her (first time she let e do it), and she was really pleased. One of my friends at work has hair that is so thin and broken off that you can see her scalp when she wear her hair straight down, so I gave her tips and suggestions, but she didn't take my advice. She got her hair cut really short, and it still looks unhealthy, within the first month of getting a relaxer applied all the way out to the already realxed ends, she relaxed it again, because she said it wasn't straight enough and she had gone 3 weeks and could see new growth. Isn't the hair supposed to be growing out?? I gave her a ziploc bag full of avocado deep conditioner, but she hasn't used it yet. I told her she could lay her edges out with Bedhead Manipulator instead of perming every couple of weeks, but she balked at the $16 price tag, and would rather keep perming twice a month. Its like her hair is melting away. I would love to get my hands in a bunch of folks hair, but they all think I'm nuts and obsessed with hair, even though my hair is a full shoulder length, and my daughters hair is just about to the waist. When you have this knowledge of good hair care, you feel like you are a missionary and you must get out and educate and preach the word, but its hard to get converts. Oh well, when my hair hits bra strap length, they will see...they will see....(does best sinister laugh).

Good for you!!! I remember your post last year about that drama. I have been waiting for your proof to shut them up!! NICE!! Cant wait to see you one near from NOW!!

My family is supportive - to the point that the first conversation they have with me is about hair. For the most part most of my friends are supportive. I have one that constantly says that every good thing I do for my hair has the "oppostie effect on her" and all the bad things, heat, etc. work really well.

If she would just LISTEN to me she would be able to grow a nice head of hair.

SerenityBreeze! I have to thank you! You gave me my first advice on haircare. I had set up a different fotki then, but you really set me on the right track with your advice!

I feel so sorry for those who don't want to listen but persist in their damaging ways.

well when i first started i did get all exited and told my friend i was at bra-strap length that i was gonna grow my hair out to waist length, this was last summer.. she laughed at me and said "you know your black right?" then said " black peoples hair dont grow that long" .....

well.... the last time she saw me and my waistlength hair she said "WOWWWW!! your hair has really grown!" then asked what i have been doing.. the thing about her is she never really listens to the whole thing and she has locks anyway so she really doesnt wanna know....so by the time i had gotten past less heat she had changed the subject anyway i mentioned i was just doing what i said i was doin previously and that is letting my hair grow out so ultimatly i have shut her up...

My best friend (who is white) loves to talk with me about my hair care and different things I'm doing/trying. She gets upset if she doesn't get to see progress pics before I put them into my fotki. She's growing her hair for Locks of Love right now and I've been sharing with her different CO treatments and things to keep her hair as healthy as she can. We've known each other for ten years and she's always been supportive of whatever I'm doing.

My BF is really supportive too. Now if I could keep him out of my products everything would be great. J/K. I have some other friends who aren't really into it but, are still supportive. A work friend was just the other day complimenting me on my NG. I feel very blessed.
