Okay ... this is a spin-off from my " Do you dress up or down When You Fly" thread on the Off Topic forum.

PART I:
Do you still wear it up and keep it protected, or do you wear it down ? Do you keep your curling iron with you in your carry-on just to touch up your style? I'm embarresed to say that I do, if I am wearing my hair down.

PART II
And yes, for you PJ's out there ... when you are in Airports throughout the world, do you find yourself looking at haircare products in duty-free if there are any ... lol! Uhmmmm ... I have a "few" times ... that's all I'll admitt to ... lol!

Part one: I keep my hair wrapped when Im flying and put my silk head scarf on if Im going to go to sleep. Yes I do that, as I would rather my hair looking fresh and neat when I get to my destination. As for part two, I dont buy any extra products, I usually make privisons for everything I need and try to elliminate 'just wanting' stuff as this concept has previously left me with a whole range of products that I dont need and end up having to give away.

I wear my hair in two braids. That is a cute and low maintenance style for me wherever I go. Plus I can lean my head back and go to sleep comfortably. Before I land I might smooth loose strands back with a smoothing/unfrizzing cream.

I get a Dominican blowout the day before or the morning before and have the stylist wrap my hair. I then put on a satin "skully" cap. After reading reports of lice on headrests in planes, there's no way under the sun I'm letting my hair touch it.

When I get to my destination, I take my hair down.

Now that I wear my hair mostly on braid outs and bantu knot set i'll either pin it up or leave it out. When I get to my destination I take it down and fluff it up a bit a go. Also if I want to sleep i'll pin it up and put my scarf on because like boadicea said I refuse to let my hair touch airplaine headrests.

No i've never checked out products in duty free

When I flew recently, I dressed up and wore my braidout, making very sure the back of my head never, ever touched the headrests. And my braidout happened to look good throughout the trip (thank goodness!)leaving and returning! I actually brought my Caruso roller system with me in my carryon, just in case my waves disappeared as well as my scrunchies in case I needed to put it up.

I pin my hair up in pincurls to keep my blowout looking fresh. Then i put on a very little scarf over them.
I wear either my eugenia kim hat or my burberry cap. I love hats!

I do this because 1) i heard that pressurized air in airplane cabins is very dehydrating and sucks moisture out of everything. that's why you're supposed to spray your face with purified water and put on moisturizer every 1-2 hours. It can age you 5-10 years after one flight so imagine what it does to your hair.
2) i wanna look cute without any fuss when i get to my dest.
Hats ensure that i look fly and that my hair is fly underneath (and not dried out).

I'm new here.. I decided to register after lurking for a while

Hello everyone!

Part One: The style doesn't matter much to me, a simple ponytail maybe to keep it off from face.. But I always moisturize well and keep something in my carry-on to moisturize my hair and face with on long flights.

Part two: Yes, if there's time, I usually look around at the tax-free. I don't buy anything if there's better shopping at my destination, if not I might buy something like Clinique shampoo and conditioner.

(And about the clothes and stuff: I try to wear somewhat stylish clothes but my firts priority is comfort. No tight jeans for me.. It's usually khakis and flats and a soft warm sweater or a cardie..)

Hmmm. I have not considered keeping the hair wrapped during a flight. It makes good sense, however. Moreover, I suppose that one could do some cute things with a pretty silk scarf. I am vain, and if I have to hide the hair, something about my head has to look nice.

In the past, however, I have simply combed my hair back, and worn a hat.

As for purchasing additional hair products, I do not do so when I fly. It is enough for me to worry about how I am going to transport my small trunk of hair care products, tools and cosmetics that I already own!

This is a really good idea. I haven't thought about that one! Thanks for sharing!

Yet another good point. Forgot about the lice thing. However, I don't know how to wrap my hair. I should learn!

-- I read that about the skin too. I keep a serum or good lotion with me. I also put my skincare procuts in a special travel size container, so I can treat my skin before I fallasleep on the flight. They say to avoid alcohol too and drink lots of water. Sorry to say, I've never thought about what it does to my hair, hmmmmm!

--Welcome!!! Once again, another good idea. A ponytail can look really cute and stylish. The only problem with that for me is the annoying feeling of a bunp on the back of your head, especially when trying to sleep.

Part I: I wear my hair in two braids.

Part II: Most of the airports I fly into seem to only sell liquor and chocolates or local foods. The only beauty store they have are usually Bath and Body Works or some similar store.

Thank you for all the tips. I will have to try some of them out. I travel weekly for my job to the west coast and have never done anything special to protect my hair.

If it's in it's natural state:
- leave in puff
- leave in twist out and refluff when plane lands

If it's straight
- twist into bun on top of my head, let it down when plane lands
