I would like an answer too!

I just bought some and tried it out this weekend with a shower cap. The jury is still out with this one.

But don't just take my answer as my hair has been acting up lately.
 
You can use it either way - I have tried it so many ways - cap off - cap off with heat (like Aphogee) with a cap -

Since this is your 1st time using it, I would recommend the cap off for 10 minutes - following up with a moisturizing dc

I have fine hair and it doesn't take much so I just apply it to my hair comb thru and leave in on for 10 minutes. This product is for fine hair and the instructions work well for me. It says something about leaving it on longer if you are going to get a chemical service. I don't have the bottle in front of me right now.
 
I generally follow the directions which say to leave it on for 10 minutes (no cap, no heat) and try not to manipulate while it is on.

Recently I tried it cap off, with heat (like Aphogee) and honestly couldn't tell a difference in results between either way.

ETA: Oh and it doesn't say this, but definitely follow with an MC. It's a liquid protein and those generally should be followed with MC.
 
I put a spray top on my bottle and weekly saturate my dry hair with it and leave it on for awhile and sometimes overnight. If I leave on overnight, I use a plastic cap. I have been using for a very long time and it does not make my hard at all. It leaves it soft and strong. When I discovered DT in 1988, I loved how it made my hair feel, so I used it two or three times a week not knowing what the heck I was doing, but my hair obviously loved the protein because that year was the only year that my hair retained length as a relaxed head, but I did not know why until I discovered this site and the light bulb went on. From being on this site, I have learned all about protein and that many cannot tolerate alot of it, but my hair absolutely loves protein and...
