What is the best way to take care of hair in an area where the water is not the best. I may be doing mission work this summer and going oversees to Africa and a few other areas where the water is not the best. I currently press my hair and lately I have been having some breakage of my ends. I don't want this situation to get worse and I don't know exactly how to take care of my hair in this type of a situation.

I was thinking maybe braid my hair ( will I get a lot of growth by having my own hair braided all the time or will it cause breakage from being tight all the time)

I also don't plan on putting any heat on my head when I go, so I was going to wash it everyday ( I know I know most of yall already wash your hair everyday). The only thing is I don't want to wash it there everyday because of the water.

Well basically I'm just confused so if you could help me out with any adice I would appreciate it very much.

I think it would be good if you could get braids for your trip. That way you dont have to worry about styling your hair while your over their just focus on keeping it clean and moisturized. Maybe take a spray bottle with you filled with distilled water and glycerin. If they sell water bottles over there use water bottles to wash your scalp if in braids. Mainly keep your hair moisturized will your in the sun and heat all day. I hope that helps its hard to travel and not know what to expect. There are better experts on here so hope you get some good advice.

I would definantly say braids is one option. Whenever I have lived in areas that are bad on my hair or places I know I won't be able to spend much time on my hair, I have worn braids. This way will be low manipulation, but you will also be able to wash and moisturize when you need to.
Also, if you don't get braids, just keeping your hair up and covered would help in protecting it.
HTH :)

I would say the braid option. Not sure what kind of products you use, but definitly take a good moisterizer with you.

So how long are you going for? It sounds like a fantastic opportunity! I'd love to hear more about it!

I'm currently deployed to Southern Asia and I know how you feel about being in a location where it may be harsh on your hair. What I do to maintain moisture and keep my hair healthy is CW every other day or every day. It works a whole lot and my hair stays very moisturized. And whenever I don't CW because I may to be to lazy, I spritz my water mixture in my hair and add Giovanni leave in and put some alo vera gel on my edges and the next day I'm good to go. I hope this helps.

How long will you be gone for? Get a light weight sun hat that will keep the sun and dirt off of your hair. And if you can stand it maybe line the hat with a silk scarf. This is what I did in Colorado in the mountains where the air was dry and windy. Humectress also saved my head but that was the old humectress.
