Hey y'all I'm new here and glad to find such a wonderful community. I always thought growing up that long hair just wasn't meant for me, but you all's pictures have proven me wrong.:D But anyways, I wanted to know how to set my deadlines, my stylist says my hair grows pretty fast but I just wanted to know if my goals are reasonable.

TIA,

Lauren :)

(Goals in siggy :p )

I figure in my growth rate per month and the amount of inches it takes to reach my goal. I set the time accordingly. I recalculate goals if I get my hair trimmed. It is best if you have an idea of your own growth rate, not the average person's head, but yours. I don't get 6 inches a year, and I came by this knowledge by measuring my new growth 4 weeks or a month into my relaxer. I get slightly less than 1/2 inch per month. You can set your goals more accurately and realistically if you know your own growth rate, not the average. For ex., I just got a 1-inch trim because I wanted blunt ends, so that set me back by 3 months. I know this because I get about a little more than an inch every three months. HTH

ETA: Your goals may be realistic depending on your rate of growth.

ITA: I do the same thing now but when I put my goals in my sig i gave my self more time for setback.

I measured my hair growth after one year (during my transition) & divided by 12 to figure my monthly rate. To set a goal I measure how much growth I want, and divide by my monthly rate to figure how long it will take to get. I don't factor in trims because I don't trim often and I hope that with optimal care my hair will grow a little faster anyway.

Yes, ditto to what all the other ladies have said. Once you've figured out your normal growth rate (and this will probably take several months + progress pictures to note the differences) you can figure out how long you'll need to reach your goal. I, too, factor in a little bit of extra time, to allow for setbacks and/or dusting. Good luck to you, girl!
