How do you prevent heat damage?

Well I no longer have any heat damaged ends since the trim. I damaged my ends when I first got a flat iron. I didn't know then that you were suppose to use protectants and such. So I want to be able to use heat every2 or 3 weeks, but I don't want to see the heat damage. I'm not talking about splits. I'm talk about the little white balls. What are some tips to use heat and still maintain healthy hair?

That's an easy one Leona, I don't use any!!! I may have blow dry a couple of times for a few minutes to dry before braiding. Now i'm bunning and i air dry.

Here's an amazing thread you should read:

I think the basics are:
1. Making sure your hair is in good health...meaning strong and moisturized.
2. Using an amazing heat protectant.
3. Have the best tools (temperature gauge, ceramic, ionic, etc. etc.).
4. Use good techniques.
5. And don't use high heat.

Oh and here's a great post on The Natural Haven discussing how much heat is too much by looking at the science. Just based on this post, I wouldn't go higher than 350F and I'd probably stay between 300-315.
