How do you Pincurl your hair?

Bumping for ya. I do pin curls but they come out like crap. I think its because I'm barely shoulder length and I don't first curl the hair with a curling iron to start the look. My technique sucks but many other women successfully do it. I *think* supergirl has a tutorial?????

There was someone who had a tutorial for pin curls where they did them on a wig/mannequin. But for the life of me I can't remember who it was...:perplexed:ohwell::confused:

I do them exactly like that tutorial, I make a loop with my hair the keep curling/turning the loop down until it's flat on my head then I secure with a pin. Oh why can't I remember where that tutorial is!!:whyme:

That sounds like how I do mine also. I don't know of anyone with a tutorial though. Sorry :look: They are fairly easy though!

I have no idea how to do them either, and I'd like to try.

But first I have to find my pins, LOL

I buy a whole pack, and they only last for about 3 months.

It was Pumpkin.:)

The tutorials coming to mind right now are from DLewis (I could be mistaken), Balisi and SouthernGirl. There are others though and there is a good tutorial site about it here.

I do my pincurls after doing a rollerset or more recently, after rollersetting just my ends when airdrying.

First, I moisturize my ends after my hair has airdried in a rollerset (to smooth my hair and ends). I make hair sections of how many pin curls I want to make. These sections don't have to be neat sections.
Then I start rolling the hair from the very end of the section, using my fingers making a "sideways flat curl" all the way up and I secure each pincurl with a Good Hair Days pin. It lays flat against my head like a flattened coil. Some of the ladies use a bobby pin or two to secure it.
If the hair is fresh and clean, it may take as little as an hour to "set" on dry hair.

I make just 8 pincurls and when I remove the hair pins, they tumble down beautifully. I just fluff my hair a bit and separate the curls with my fingers (no finger combing). It looks like a bouncy rollerset but the curls are mainly at the bottom of my hair rather than all over. The length of my hair is smooth and slightly wavy from the pin curl but hangs mostly straight.

i love to pincurl my hair when it is straight but since i have washed my hair recently i dont plan on straightening it for 4 more weeks to give my hair a needed break.

but pincurls work well on my flat ironed hair, since i like being able to just take them out style my hair a bit and go in the morning. :)

I adore pincurls! That's what you see in my current avatar. I never took the time to make a tutorial, but I teach my clients how to pincurl their hair to help keep it looking good in between visits.

now i wanted to do this for my graduation
it will be my first time attempting this on straightened hair (i did it with my twists)
anyhow will it still work if i dont curl it first
i am trying to avoid heat by just doing pin curls to give it some bounce

will this work? and last throughout the day? any tips?

also, i am so afraid it wont work out and end up being a disaster

This thread is just what I needed, I've been looking for an alternative to braid-outs and rollersets between salon visits.

Speaking of this, I don't know what it's called, but has anyone ever twisted their hair (looks like cornrows but their twisted). These of course are more tighter looking curls spirals, but you can set it while it's wet just like a braid out. Just another alternative.

EP, the reason for pre-curling it on straight hair is to make it easier to start the pin curl. It should have been quite easy with twists. To avoid heat, you can try a dry set on small - medium rollers first, just enough to bend the tips. But really, if you're heat straightening your hair, the little extra heat to curl the ends won't hurt.

I almost forgot to mention: the curls should last all day. The curls get more resilient after each night of pincurling, so your curls on day three will hold up better than your day one curls.
