How do you make a braidout/twistout last?

Hi ladies,

I tried my first braidout recently and wore it for a day. The second time I tried it, I managed to get 2 days out of it before it went frizzy.

The second time my hair was sufficiently moisturized and i moisturized before I slept (while trying not to manipulate too much), but I still could not get more than 2 days wear out of it.

tried to post the pic here but it didn't display

Are you rebraiding it like in big messy braids at night w/ a dab of moisturizer and using a good night scarf that will stay put?

I didn't rebraid, I thought it would mess up the waves but my scarf does stay put.

Is rebraiding each night always necessary?

I got mine to last for a week although it did not look as great by day 5. I did not rebraid for the week

At night I moisturized and piled my hair on top of my head and secured the sides with clips (one on each side). Think of a ponytail but with no scrunchie. I then slept in my bonnet. The results are here:

On the last night I put a roller on the ends and then put on the bonnet. That seemed to lengthen the braid out.

Funny you ask because I just took out my braids last night. I so wanted to wear my braidout but I'm hiding my hair. Therefore, I have the perfect braidout after taking down my cornrowed style after two weeks. It could last up to a week like this.

While this is side tracking a little, I thought it might help...

I do bantu knots every night on my hair, and apply a little ojon to then ends. I keep the knots in till the morning, and then after my routine (shower, make up etc) I take them down and use a WIIIIDE tooth comb and comb it out.

The end result is curls that last ALL day, and look light a fluffy...like a person with good hair :lachen:

I'll try take some pics...Try it though! Maybe on the weekend and see if it works for you.

Thanks, I'll try this next time. I like the half up, half down....I think mine have been a little too wild for work!

I'll try the bantu knots too, I like the deeper waves

I used to wonder the same thing. Braidouts have been my saving grace since I've been stretching and I can never seem to get them to last past two days. Sometimes i'll just spray a leave in on my air and put it up in a clip when it gets old and frizzy. Otherwise I just CW and re-braid every other day. I'll put some pics in my fotki soon.

I rinse or spray a bunch of leave in after I twist it. Then I let it dry completely. After that the set lasts for atleast a week. I don't know how practical that is for you though.

Well I'm in love with braidouts, However, I must rebraid every night, which is fine by me because I make sure I moisturize and but aloe vera gel on my hair which is what gives me lovely defined waves. I love Braidouts! I wear them every day now.

I twist/ braid wet hair with a little tcb lite (must be lite) hair & scalp conditioner...let it air dry fully and the twistout/braidout will last me about a week, week and a half. I dont use the tcb on my scalp though, it has mineral oil in it, but it's great for my twists done on wet hair. A little goes a long way.
