How do you know when you're save?

This is a question that I have been wrestling with as of lately. First off I'm just starting on my christian walk and just wanted to know how do one get there. So the question is: When did you know that you were save? And how did you get there?

Thanks

This is a good question because, unfortunately, some churches suggest that one only needs to say a prayer accepting Jesus in one's heart in order to be saved. If that is the case, I was technically saved around age 9.

It is my belief, that one is truly saved when one truly understands what it means to truly believe Jesus Christ as one's Savior. That understanding comes with a genuine desire to become more Christlike. A genuine desire to repent of one's sins. A genuine desire to know the Lord. It is not enough to believe that Jesus existed, but to believe Him as your Savior.

Acts 16:31
And they said, (A)“Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you (B)and your household.”

Ephesians 2:8–9
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

Thank You for answering my question. I use to attend a church that believed that as long as one accept God as one personal savior than you are save. I just don't think it is that easy. How would you define more christlike?

When you say the prayer and you believe it in your heart you are saved.
It is that easy to be saved, but actually walking with Christ is not. Remember there are consequences for your actions, and if you are disobedient as a Chrisitian, He will remind you how you are supposed to act.
Salvation is free and unconditional, you just have to believe.

When I was 19, I was hanging out going to the club until one day I was in the club and I felt that I did not belong there. I was going to church and one day I realized that I needed to be saved. It's like my eyes were opened and I needed a savior.

So I accepted the Lord and my life was changed. It was like heaviness fell off me and I was light or free. I desired to know more about God, so I would read my roommates bible until I got my own. I began my journey with the Lord by spending time in prayer, worship and the word.

Now when I first got saved I did not think I could live right but God in His grace kept me, I desired to be kept. Not saying I did not make mistakes but Thank God for His grace.

Saved means you have turned from the old life, a life disconnected from God and asked Christ to come in and forgive your sin and you have accepted Him as the Lord and Savior of your life.

It is a process. You begin to walk with the Lord and as you walk with Him you decrease while His ways increase in you. You become more and more assured of your salvation as you spend time with Him.

The bible says "those that are endure to the end will be saved". We wont be officially saved until we see Jesus on the last day. When we press pass the cares of this world and what our flesh feels and make it to the great day. I know people say "say a prayer" but after that prayer is said, you have to begin to make some changes. Our main focus is: Am I being converted? Is my heart being changed? Am I walking in the word of God? Are my desires becoming more Christ like?Am I becoming more sensitive to God? This is how you know the salvation process is taking place. When you begin to see yourself walking in the "newness of life". You see yourself becoming more Christ-like. Changes dont occur over night, but stay seeking God and being obedient, and He that started the work will finish it in you":yep: You will start to change right before your very eyes and you will become unrecognizeable to your own self.

I knew God saved me when I didn't want anything of the world, and all I wanted was Him. When I began to hate my sin, and wanted to be made free

God Bless Sis!

There is only way to salvation which is through Jesus Christ.

"If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." Romans 10:9

It is that simple. And only you and God know if you truly believe in your heart.

Now the process of sanctification (becoming more and more holy and thereby sinning less) begins at the point of salvation and is a daily walk.

Remember: salvation is not earned through works but is a gift that Jesus did the "work" for already.

I went to church all my little life but did not get saved until such time as I understood what salvation meant and agreed that I needed it. I was about 8.

proudofmynaps:

Like Coilyfield's said, when one becomes saved, one will begin sanctification. Sanctification is what is means to become more Christlike. Here's a little Scripture on that:

ROMANS 6
1 What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? 2 By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? 3 Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.
5 For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his. 6 For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with,[a] that we should no longer be slaves to sin— 7 because anyone who has died has been set free from sin.

8 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. 9 For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. 10 The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God.

11 In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. 12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. 13 Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness. 14 For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace.

The bolded is something we all agree on. To "believe in your heart that Jesus is your Savior" is to believe that He died for your sins. And when you believe that such a man died for your sins, you become a new person (2 Corinthians 5:17).

Romans 6
We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? 3 Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.

Yep. Let me exit this thread already. :)

You are saved when you accept and believe Christ came into being as man, died on the Cross for your sin and rose again. That belief will manifest in your life as you will yearn to seek the will of God. Everything you do, from how you speak, dress, handle specific situations, etc. will reflect your faith in Christ. You will truly be a new creature in Him.

2 Corinthians 5:17: Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come. The old has gone, the new is here!

loolalooh. I'm confused by your statement. Did my post offend you? I was just sharing my journey to salvation.

Health&hair28: No, it didn't offend me at all.:nono: Sorry if I gave that impression. I like your testimony because it highlights the change (old life to new) that comes with being saved.

I said "let me get out of this thread" because I've been in and out of it for about 2 hours.:spinning: The topic of "being saved" is one that I can be overly passionate about. Lol.

oh okay...lol. I know I need to get off as well. I am working on a research paper and I keep putting it off to do other things. :drunk:

Yes, salvation is the best gift I have ever received. Sometimes I think about what my life would be like without Christ and I get teary-eyed.

I remember calling a someone and telling them how free I felt. I did not really understand that I had experienced a new birth, a washing, regeneration. They were excited and so was I.

Such a lovely experience. Thank you again for sharing your story. :)

God bless! I pray the research paper goes well.

I would like to say that we should be very cautious with giving anyone "assurance" that they will enter heaven because they have said a prayer. It is not something you should say lightly because IF you are wrong, you may be held accountable if that person is not saved and does not make it into the kingdom when they die. I'm treading carefully here because I know that salvation only requires faith and belief in Christ, not works, as scripture tells us.

John puts it this way, They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us; but their going showed that none of them belonged to us." I John 2:19.

I think these people said a prayer too. They were with them! It's clear that John could not tell either, except that the people did not continue. Salvation is not by works. But the evidence that you ARE saved is that you will continue in the work. There should be some evidence.

Paul tells us to do this, "Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail the test?"

The word says, NARROW, is the way that leads to salvation, and FEW FEW FEW who will find it. (Matthew 7:14). Let's not give anyone false assurance because this is contrary to the word. We must examine ourselves!

Part of me wanted to post a new thread on this, but I'm sure you ladies can answer for me. Its a question that has been on my mind for the longest and I guess I want some other opinions for a bit of clarity. How exactly do I know if I'm doing right? If I'm walking the right path? A few years back I know I lost my way. I stopped praying and got sucked into worldly things. I reached a breaking point though. I realized what I was doing wrong, and started trying to build my relationship with God. It was then when my life slowly started coming back together. I consistently talk to Him about everything. But what I worry about is if I'm doing enough.....I try to live my life well, I like our relationship, and I don't try to take anything He does for me for granted. I know that I'm blessed, and I am trying to get to a point where I read His Word more as well. But is this enough for God? I'm human, I know I sin......I just sometimes worry that what if believing and doing things the way I do isn't enough.....

What do you ladies feel about this? Do you have any scriptures you could direct me to to get some more clarity on this? Ive prayed about it but my concern is still here

cutiepiesensei:

The entire book of Romans is a good place to start. Romans 6. Romans 12.

ROMANS 12: 1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Also, look at Jesus' Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5-7.

At the end of the day, only GOD knows who will go to heaven and who will not. Just continue to renew your mind and follow the teachings in Scripture. Allow yourself to undergo sanctification. Kill the flesh daily.

I knew I was saved when I confess Jesus as my Lord and Savior. When by faith, that believe the died on the cross for past, present, and future sins of the world. He paid the debt that I couldn't afford to pay in full. He paid the ransom that I may become reconcile back to God through him. He became sin for me, who knew no sin, that I may become the righteousness of God in him.

I knew I was saved when I received the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. I didn't feel like I once was. I could see finally. The void was filled. I was now alive and no longer dead nor no longer separated spiritually from God. For the first time, I knew I was going to one day be with my Lord and Savior in heaven face to face in all his glory to personally thank him for saving me on calvary's tree.

Remember the woman with the issue of blood for 12 years or the blind man, or anyone that approached Christ by faith, even when they didn't know he was the Messiah to come. It was their faith that healed them and their faith that saved them. They didn't have any doubts that he was the living Savior when they approached him, they boldly went before him. Guess what? They didn't have to work. All they did was believe. That's all it takes for someone to receive eternal life and that is believe that Jesus is the Christ, believe that he died and rose again. Believe he is God.

You will most definitely feel a change. I can tell you that entering my 20s as a believer was something I will forever be grateful for. I believe that God knew I was seeking for him but didn't know how to get there and he provided away. I have an unspeakable joy in the midst of hate from others, chronic illnesses, trials, tribulations. It's natural to go before the Lord on a daily basis, even if it's just to say "hi". Jesus is apart of my life in every aspect. When he's displeased with me, you bet the Holy Spirit will let me know that I need to get it together and fast.

So yes, when the roll is called up yonder, I'll be there. I can't wait to meet yall.

The word "SAVED" is so overrated by us christians.

Nobody knows if he is saved or not.
Only God knows. Salvation is at the end.

what people call "saved" is the substitute of "called" "chosen" "set apart by God" "invited"
and you have to repond and wear the gartments of salvation to make it to God's table.

Many people stop at the beleiving and the responding part. But they have to get ready to make it to the party. The party is sitting at the banquet's table with God.
To make it to the party you have to wear your finest most handsome clothes not dirty clothes.

It is not only when we confessed the name of Jesus that we are "saved". this is only the responding part. the beginning.

We have to confess, believe, carry our cross and follow Christ. We have to overcome untill the end.
This is done through the Grace of God. He is the only one who can give it to us. We need to want it and ask it to God and He can give it to us if He wants. This is where our hearts help us. Because God knows our hearts more than we do ourselves. We need to constantly seek His Grace.

Luke 14:15-23 The parable of the Great Banquet.
Rev:3:5

Please read the Other Thread on loss salvation. There are a lots of verses that can help.

Blessings,
C
