How do you know if your hair needs a moisturizer??

I know this question is getting a "Duh..." response from many of you, but I'm serious! I read all the time about how some don't need a moisturizer until 2 or 3 or 7 days after they washed and styled; I hope I'm making sense! Does your hair feel a certain way when you need moisturizer after a couple of days?? Do you even put on a moisturizer the same day you wash and style???

I never really put any on the same day as a wash and style because my leave in does the job. For the most part, I don't allow my hair to get dry where it NEEDS moisturizer. Prevention, girl! I prevent the dryness before it starts! LOL

But, I know it is crunch time when my hair is not as shiny, not flowing the same way, breaking if I comb it, and things like that.

OHHHH OK! LOL....I pretty much put a moisturizer on every other day, but I HATE it, because my hair gets super LIMP and GREASY looking!!! :nono: So I figured if I can figure out when I NEED it, I can save the greasy hair!! :spinning:

Maybe you need to reduce the amount you put on your hair. Im terrible with this, i slather my moisteriser on.
Maybe you just need that small fingertip or dime size amount of moisteriser each time.

oops! double post!

I believe it depends on the climate where you live (humid vs dry) and how often you wash your hair. Also whether or not you seal in that moisture after originally washing your hair.

Since I wash and deep condition 2 x each week, my hair doesn't start feeling any dryness until the third day, especially if I wear my hair down. I can tell by the way my hair moves and how it hangs on my head. When I run my hand down my hair on the third day, it doesn't feel as soft as it did the day before. It's like having a bad hair day, although I know my hair is still rather clean and the style is good. This is pretty consistent each week.

I learned by "accident" that on this third day, my hair just needs a little bit of moisture--not too much. I bought some Humectin one day at a salon and applied a small amount while in the public restroom. My hair revived before my eyes and was restored--soft, swinging and everything! I even got a hair compliment right after this by a person who worked there. So now I do this all of the time and can even go four days if I choose to.

BTW, I always make sure my ends are moisturized each day, no matter what. The ends are the first part to start drying out immediately upon exposure.

This is all I use per section. I used to slather it on, too. Now, I just use a cap. But, I think that depends on the moisturizer you use, as well. I use Qhemet Biologics products and a dab is really all I need to prevent dryness.
