How do you know if your hair is thick or thin?

I think when people say thick hair they mean high density. Are your twist outs full? How does your hair look straight? Does your relaxed hair always have that flat just relaxed look?

Exactly... hair thickness refers to hair density, and strand thickness refers to the individual strand size.

One way to see if your hair is thick, is to look at a 1in square of your hair. If you grip that 1in square together and pull taught to mimic straightness, is the circumference the size of a dime, nickle, or a quarter? Average or medium thickness would be about the same circumference of a nickle.

HTH!

One of the more detailed typing systems suggested to put your hair in a ponytail (could be placed anywhere, as long as most of your hair was in the pony) and the circumference would tell you what your thickness was. I'll have to dig for it. I had typed myself as a 4a M ii. I don't even know what that means anymore.

I always find it odd that people desire thick hair. When you're natural, it's just so much more to deal with.
