How do you handle fears?

I've been having fears about things I can't control (wars, danger, etc). I don't pray/read/praise/worship like I should and I think that has a lot to do with it.

What is the best way to handle these fears?

Well, if you think it's a consequence of not praying/reading/and worshipping like you should, that's probably where you should start.

Also, be mindful of your inability to control those kinds of disasters. There is NOTHING, short of preparation, that you can do about it. So your best bet is to prayed up and in God's will, regardless of what happens.

Worry is a bad mental habit that can be broken with God's help and faith. Prayer is the enemy of worry. It is counterproductive to do both, so choose one. If you're going to pray, don't worry...God has it under control, and you MUST trust that if your prayers are to be effectual. However, if worrying is more fun to you, then don't waste time praying. It's one or the other...they cancel each other out when done simultaneously.

Speak positively throughout the day. The tongue is very powerful, and we can easily speak things into and out of existence. Speak life, abundance, peace, and prosperity into your situations. Even when speaking about mundane things, speak positively regarding these things.

Find passages in the Bible that speak of faith, hope, and abundance. Read them often, and ponder their meaning. One of my favorites is Mark 11:22-24.

With God, all things are possible, and He truly will give you the peace that passes all understanding if you seek Him. :)

Best wishes,

ITA! We as humans cannot control many things, but GOD can control all things, if we allow Him into our hearts and minds:)

These scriptures are from the NIV version and I copied them from Biblegateway.com, one of my FAVORITE online resources because you can type in words and you can type in books or specific verses...=) You can also study the Bible tw/daily scriptures.

I second everything everyone said. I think you might want to pick a favorite scripture and meditate on it; these are some that have really spoken to me:

2 Timonthy 2: 3 - 7

Encouragement to be Faithful
3I thank God, whom I serve, as my forefathers did, with a clear conscience, as night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers. 4Recalling your tears, I long to see you, so that I may be filled with joy. 5I have been reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also. 6For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. 7For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.

Fear is NOT of God.

Philippians 4:4-7

4Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Really meditate on that...

Psalm 91

This was used at my grandmother's funeral. It's very popular and very soothing.
Psalm 91

1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. [a]
2 I will say [b] of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust."
3 Surely he will save you from the fowler's snare
and from the deadly pestilence.
4 He will cover you with his feathers,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
5 You will not fear the terror of night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
nor the plague that destroys at midday.
7 A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.
8 You will only observe with your eyes
and see the punishment of the wicked.
9 If you make the Most High your dwelling—
even the LORD, who is my refuge-
10 then no harm will befall you,
no disaster will come near your tent.
11 For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways;
12 they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread upon the lion and the cobra;
you will trample the great lion and the serpent.
14 "Because he loves me," says the LORD, "I will rescue him;
I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
15 He will call upon me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble,
I will deliver him and honor him. 16 With long life will I satisfy him
and show him my salvation."

Know - WITHOUT A DOUBT that NO - and I mean NO - weapon formed against you shall prosper.

Life and death are in the power of the tounge. Know that you have the authority to speak to mountains and command them to be removed - speak to your fear and command it to be removed and have unwavering faith that it is already done in the spirit and it will be manifested in the flesh.

Know that, as a believer, you have the privelage of having every step you make ordered by the Lord. In these days and times, there are alot of things going on around us, but God has everything under control. He knows our end from our beginning, he knows what we need before we know we need it. Keep your heart in tune with his voice and everything will be okay.

God is Almighty, and there is no man/bullet/war that is more powerful than he. When you feel fear, (like everyone else has said) pray. Prayer and The Word are the most powerful weapons you have.
