How do relaxers work?

Here is some information from a relaxed member of BHSGO Suszanna. She broke down how relaxers work and what they do.

It explains it really well

Relaxer FAQ

I was just reading this and I didn't even know that there are certain types of hair that just won't relax. Very interesting reader, and this is all from the manufacturer and labs. Good stuff.

I kinda miss those research Queen days, sniff, sniff....

o.k. I'm done being nostalgic /images/graemlins/grin.gif

That's a great link Tara. Very informative and good info for everyone, whether they relax at home or go to a salon. Thanks so much for that!

yep, makes sense about the relaxers not working at times. my stylist would not relax me once cos i had a lot of oils, too much, in my hair. the night before, i had stupidly put in pantene s and s thinking i was protecting my relaxed ends prior to the touch up. the next day my hair was still damp! i was instead given a lemon shampoo (to get rid of oils) and my roots blown straight.

the moral of my story is to preferably thoroughly shampoo and deep condition (pref. with a mild protein like ORS mayo or cathy howse UBH conditioner) your hair 3-4 days before a relaxer and AVOID putting in too much of products. then when it comes to relaxing, there isnt too many products in the hair to interfere with what the relaxer is trying to do so it relaxes faster, avoiding underprocessing, plus the protein will strengthen the relaxed part and reduce the likelihood of overprocessing.
