How do I know when it\'s time to get a trim?

Lord knows that I am trying to hold on to every piece of hair that I have....but I haven't had one in almost six months, and I really don't want my hair to break off from excessive split ends, but I don't know if I have those. Your help is great appreaciated. /images/graemlins/frown.gif

If you feel that you don't need one then don't. If you notice your ends are uneven or growing with no style to it then you should trim your ends it's up to you some people hair grows without trimming /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Karonica,

Leejure and Adrienne had some great, simple tips for knowing when it is time to trim.

Adrienne trims when her ends look reddish, an indication to her of damage.

Leejure first coats her ends in Vaseline. Whatever is still rough and frizzy after being coated in Vaseline, is what she trims.

I use both of these methods. I am growing out some hair color, and that also happens to be the damaged area. Therefore, I am looking to cut that colored area. Leejure's tip worked especially great for me. I coated my lengths in oil, and cut off about 2 inches of rough, crispy ends, but I need to get rid of a lot more.

I didn't want to lose all my length right away, being I still want to be able to get my hair in a bun. So I am scheduling 2 more trims about 4 months apart, so I can get rid of another 3-5 inches.

So my suggestion is first figure out what is damaged, then decide how much you want to cut. You might be able to hold off on a trim by deep conditioning and protecting your ends for a while.

Thanks so much!

After my next touch-up, I am going to trim my own hair. I'll post pics when I'm done. Thanks again.
