Hey ladies,

I flat iron my daughter's freshly washed hair for the first time and it smelled burnt. She had some shea butter oil in her hair.
Is there a way to pervent this and also what is the best product to use for flat ironing?
Thank you

I think that you should lower the heat when using an oil on the hair. Or use the same amount of heat, but flat iron it dry with no product and and oil at the end.

i agree with ms kenesha. i find that pressing/flat ironing with too much oil and too high heat produces a burnt or "cooked hair" smell. try using a low heat setting with little to no product and use your oils at the end.

Also make sure that you wipe the iron off before you start and maybe some time during the process. What you might be smelling is old oils that have built up on the iron and the smell is transferring to her hair.

yeah...i would use flat irons and curling irons until the iron part turned dark.....then whenever I used it, it would smell like waffles...lol
