How did you tame or cure your dandruff?

My mother had chronic dandruff, so one day I applied pure TEA TREE oil on her scalp. It went away (now its back because she got a relaxer and a color, back to back to back). But, yea, Tea Tree, Neem even Amla will cure dandruff.

Sulfur 8 baby.. Once I stopped going to Dominicans, my so-called dandruff cleared up. Now imagine, getting your hair washed and set every week and still suffer from dandruff. I once believe dandruff was caused by dirty hair but that's not the case becuase I've gone 3 weeks w/out washing and never had not even an itch. So after thinking about it, I've come to the realization that I was getting something like dandruff because the Dominican salon I was going to does not disinfect their combs and brushes properly hence dandruff... Now after doing my own hair for the last 5 years I don't have dandruff anymore and I don't have to use Sulfur 8 any more either.
Agree with using sulfur 8...not too much though because, for me, too much grease or anything on my scalp=dandruff. So if you are applying anything on your scalp, try to not apply too much. I think washing and DCing every week and moisturizing everyday has helped me too.

Tried that too. Worked for a week only. lol

Sulfur 8 light does work!

Maybe I wont get banned for saying this but Boundless Tresses cured my dandruff. I had dandruff really bad all my life but now I cant remember the last time I had any flakes.

Right now I am on a three week fast. Diluted pure juices for 6 days, followed by ten days of nothing but water, follwed by 5 days of master cleanse juice mixture. I am also doing colon cleansing throughout. I feel like I had an excess of sugar in my system (not really a big sugar eater but I must admit that I loved the vino a bit excessively at times) and the excess sugar lead to excessive yeast production hence the dandruff. I also had a low grade yeast infection for several months. Now I have only been drinking for the past 4 years but I have had dandruff since I was a little girl so I don't know if alcohol was really a contributing factor or not. While I am doing the fast I am also using shikakai oil and amla oil daily as well as Vatika Anti Dandruff shampoo. I think that somehow this combination is really helping. I have truly been flake free for the past 10 days for the first time in almost 20 years.

I haven't seen a flake since I started co-washing.

Is there a difference between dandruff and dry scalp? I used to have scales all along my hair line and just dry & itchy eveyrwhere.

No more since co-washing. None.

I totally agree with the bolded. Since coming here, I've been co-washing instead of using shampoo, and I must admit it's been going on a little over a week now since I've started that and have yet to see a flake! Whereas, previously I would see flakes going on the 3rd or 4th day before washing. But now I co-wash 3-4x a week, so maybe my washing has something to do with it now. But either way I'm happy about it, since I don't have no lil mini polka dots appearing on the top of my black shirts LOL.

In the past when I have had this problem(dry flacki scalp or dandruff), I have used ORS Uplifting Poo(never fails) and ingesting EFA's, namely flaxseed. Ohh, pre-pooing helps me a lot. When I skip this step, I can tell the difference.

My favorite dandruff shampoo is Sebulex - it doesn't cure but provides immediately relief in terms of getting your scalp completely clean on that wash day.

Ingredients:
Active Ingredients: Sulfur (2%), Salicylic Acid (2%)

Inactive Ingredients: D&C Yellow 10, Docusate Sodium, EDTA, FD&C Blue 1, Fragrance, PEG 6 Lauramide, PEG 14M, Sodium Dodecyl Benzene Sulfonate, Sodium Octoxynol-2 Ethane Sulfonate, Water

ETA: Looks like there is more confirmation on sulfur being good at relieving dandruff

MN mixed with amla and coconut oil and BT.

Not only did my dandruff go away, but I've suffered from seborrheic dermatitis/psoriasis/eczema (different doctors, different diagnoses) since being a teenager.

My scalp cleared up and the patches disappeared within 2 weeks... and my hair grew!

MN was the first product I've ever used that completely got rid of my dandruff, which makes me think it actually wasn't dandruff but a scalp fungus. I've been flake free for an entire year now and during this past year most of what I put on my scalp has been anti fungal(i.e. sulphur products, tea tree oil, etc.) The prescription dandruff poos I used were terribly drying to my hair in addition to being funky and expensive and just temporary fixes.

Washing more often and using oils. I also used MN for a month and I think that may have helped too.

My best friend had a caky flaking dandruff; I figured it was a fungus so I told her to use MN..Her whole life she thought it was growing dandruff since she always had MBL hair...Needless to say, the MN stopped it in its tracks. She used MN for about a month and it hasn't come back since she stopped using MN mid December.

Sulfur 8 hair grease has been consistently been my go-to product for taming my dandruff. I used to use the shampoo too when I was locked, but since I'm loose and wash more frequently, I haven't had to use it. However, I've recently discovered this and find it to be comparable to the sulfur 8 without the stink. Its pungent, but not stinky.

My mom does a rinse with Neem powder and water. She adds a couple of teaspoons of the powder to a 1/2 gallon of warm water. Lets it sit overnight then pours it all over her scalp and hair. Then puts on a plastic cap for 30- 1hr. Her scalp used to be so bad that she used steroid creams to keep it in check. The neem has totally cleared it up. She does this every other week or so.

I used to use Selsun Blue shampoo (the moisturizing formula) at least once a month. I I would leave it on for 10 minutes before rinsing it out. I'm assuming it has sulfates in it, but my hair never felt stripped. I ran out and have yet to see if Avalon Tea Tree and Mint Shampoo will agree with my scalp.

for me no relaxer+natural hair products+ weekly washings= no dandruff

It was an issue when I washed every two weeks and had a relaxer....some synthetic products also seem to create build up that was like dandruff or irratation.

I have seborrheic dermatitis which is an extreme case of dandruff. My face also used to peel. That is, until I started using ACV on both my face and scalp.

No more flakes.....no more flakes.
