What was the most important thing that lead to hair growth for you? What brought your hair back to life?
for me it has always been braiding(individual pencil size). When it's in braids you can't put your hands in it..no heat and no manip. This one method has been the key to my hair growth. I have gotten to BSL before using this method and this is how I plan to get there again.

Not going crazy over it... washing and deep conditioning every week, basic styling (rollersets, ponytails) have worked for me. I've come to realize that hair grows, I just have to make sure i keep it.

Not using heat was the best thing I've ever done for my hair. Learning to work with my natural texture and realizing that I could look pretty with curly natural styles really saved my hair.

I used to flat iron and use a curling iron every few days, with no heat protectant. I had to have straight hair even though it was breaking off all over and so unhealthy.

Once I cut off a good five inches of damaged hair in some areas and started washing frequently my hair improved dramatically.

When I started using good quality products, no more vaseline, and avocado butter my hair took off!

Thanks Beana and Cam! @ Cam I was the same way..I would straighten my hair every other week, and curl it all the time. I just wanted it to be straight so what if i saw broken hairs in the sink..I couldn't go out looking "a hot mess" lol...but now I have learned other styling options for my hair that involve little or no heat..that includes braids. Since I am natural I am learning to love my texture for what it is.That doesn't mean I don't get the occasional press though.

Eating healthy, exercising, and drinking water... My hair has never grown this fast! I should mention that I used to eat horribly and drink little to no water. So this lifestyle change has been great for my hair.

Moisture and cleansing.

These were the two things that enabled me to go from below shoulder to APL before my BC even though I was cutting 1" every other month and transitioning.

Braids. Putting singles in my hair and giving it a break from styling it everyday really helped me.

OMG Anky my hair wants to be like yours when it grows up! I know you hear it all the time but your hair is sooo pretty, and you have come such a long way!

My hair started recovering right away when I stopped using all heat and started airdrying instead in rollersets to smooth out my hair. Also, washing and deep conditioning twice each week, keeping my ends moisturized and stretching my relaxers to 13 weeks made a huge difference in my hair's health and growth.

Definitely! I didn’t realize how much my iron deficiency anemia affected my hair growth until I was ordered by my doctor to take iron supplements. My hair has not been as full as it is now in years. Exercise and good nutrition certainly goes a long way. As far as supplements, I take a multi-vitamin and brewers yeast is one of my favorite nutritional supplements that provides potassium, iron, fiber, protein, and additional vitamins and minerals.

I started seeing results after about 3 months, but I have a pretty serious deficiency (only about 70% of normal blood iron level, which is not good ). My hair was falling out left and right. But, if your iron levels are not that low, you should see results sooner. But 3-6 months is normal for the iron to take effect because taking too much iron at one time is dangerous. It must be built up in your system over time. For example, I'm looking at about two years to get my iron levels into a normal range, but it's very important.

This is very useful information about iron. I am always slightly anemic.
