This is the microfusion conditioning treatment that goes with the Mizani Butter Blend system. This was the conditioner that smelled and felt wonderful on my hair when I got my first Butter Blend relaxer. I had to have it, so I ordered it online. In looking at the ingredients, I noticed that the second ingredient is denatured alcohol!

That's not good for hair!
I do remember seeing on television once that the alcohol in hair products evaporates from the product as soon as it comes out of the container and before it reaches your hair. But why even put it in there if that's the case? I'm sure there's a point to having it in there, but I wish I knew what that point was. :ohwell:

yep I noticed that too. I don't plan on using that when I try out the Butter Blends kit I have.

Well, I know my hair didn't experience any negative effects from the relaxer kit (used every product). I'm going to use it again when it's time for my next relaxer touch up. :)

Wait. Don't you rinse it out? Maybe it is not so bad if it is rinsed out. I would not use a leave-in with denatured alcohol. I use heat on my hair and that sounds like recipe for dryness and hard hair.

There are many types of alcohols, fatty alcohols, and emollient waxes in hair-care products and they are not a problem. It's true that SD-alcohol or grain alcohol is extremely drying for hair.(which is why it is rarely used, if ever in shampoos and conditioners). And the one you mentioned is a grain alcohol, and it's the 2nd ingredient listed, which means it has a high content. I don't think I would use that on my hair. The only time I use the bad alcohols on my hair, is when I use hairspray. But I don't worry too much because, the alcohol in hairspray evaporates too quickly to impact the moisture content of my hair.
ETA: now, if it is a rinse out product, then it would be okay to use on your hair.

Honey, what are you going to use as a replacement? I will be trying the new system in Nov.

Nothing. I was just going to skip it. I use my own conditioners after relaxing anyway. But, since it is rinsed out after neutralizing, maybe it is not so bad.

-rinse relaxer
-condition then rinse
-neutralize then rinse
-microfusion then rinse
-deep condition with my favorite conditioner then rinse

I think that is okay with all that rinsing and conditioning going on.

That compilation of hair care info on pg.com says that those alcohols are carriers are for other ingredients, and that the alcohol dissipates once the other ingredients have reached the hair. So that's the purpose of them being in products, but why they couldn't use something else instead to do the same thing is beyond me. That's like NTM Silk Touch leave-in having sodium hydroxide in it. Yes, it may not hurt me, but why didn't you guys pick something else to balance the product out...:ohwell: At least the Mizani product is to be washed out...

With all the rinsing, I think I will give it a shot. I am definitely going to test it before putting it on my whole head. I'm very anxious to try this new line.:yep:

My hair loves a lot of products with mineral oil in them. :ohwell:

Same,

I've heard over and over mineral oil clogs your this and that, but eh. My hair has done well with it!

supergirl,

your hair is fly, you don't need to change a thing in your routine.
