How are YOU using Castor Oil?

I've heard so many raves about castor oil, that I'm now curious... how are you using it and how is it working for you? Unlike other oils, it's really thick and heavy, so it seems that it would weigh the hair down and "coat" it. Are you guys sealing with it? Hot oil treatments? Applying to new growth? Putting it on your scalp? Let a sista know...

I mix with coconut oil and put it on my scalp twice a week. I use the mix to seal my edges everyday. It works very well alone too.

I also have successfully sealed with it :yep:

I don't think it penetrates into the hair, so I stopped adding it to hot oil treatments.

but it's still a great oil anyway! Really seals in moisture well, plus it's naturally antifungal/antibacterial. I love the stuff :yep:

Just apply lightly :) It may not be for you if your hair is very fine/thin though.

I think raw castor oil works best being mixed w/ other things...notably jojoba or coconut oil. I have a tendency to use it this way but rarely do I put the tiniest bit undiluted on may edges, nape, and ends. LOL...my whole head, nada.

It does have great properties and can/should be used all over your head however you usually use oils, but I strongly suggest to dilute it 1st. Besides, if you're using some of that expensive Jamaican stuff, it'll save ya money! Always a good thing, right?! ;)

That's an interesting observation Neith, so does it just sit there on top of you hair when you're getting ready to wash? Did you use it sitting under a dryer or did you heat it and just put a plastic cap on to trap body heat? Personally I wouldn't use it as a hot oil cuz it would be the dickens to wash out cuz it's so darn thick. :nono:

I just use it to seal my hair,
right after I wash, I load my hair with conditioner
then rub the castor oil in, on top of that
since my hair is wet its easier to apply/coat my hair

I just heated it and put a plastic cap on with it. It was usually mixed with evoo/coconut oil. but a few times I ran out of the others and just used the castor.

If you heat up castor oil, it gets less thick :yep:

I didn't have a problem getting it out with a gentle shampoo.

LOL...perhaps you're right on the ease of washing out. I'm just too cheap to use that expensive JA stuff as a hot oil!

Love castor oil. I use it mixed with coconut oil in the warmer months and use mostly castor oil in the fall/winter months. At night I put my hair in bantu knots and use castor oil on the lenght of my hair. Never tried it on the scalp .....may have to try this.

I mix castor oil in my MN mix and I have some mixed in with some extra virgin coconut oil that I use as a sealant and as a scalp massage oil/prepoo before a henna or ayurveda treatment. I am not as consistent with it as I should be though. I may start to use it more frequently soon.

I use castor oil for a number of things...I use it for my chronic dry skin and KP, I use it for my scalp to keep it clean and clear, My weak edges that have really improved...since my hair is fine I mix mine with Vatika oil to seal. I like it so far.:yep:

I use it undiluted on my wet hair before airdrying.

I seal the ends of my hair with it when I wear a bun/ponytail.

I use it on my DD's hair and scalp to seal.

I use it undiluted on my nape and edges. (Recently)

It was my staple oil when I was natural to keep my hair super soft.

So how bout i JUST left the sams247 website and they are OUT OF JBCO!!!! :(

Where else can i order it ya'll? I apply it to my scalp twice a week.

I use regular CO. I haven't noticed much of a difference and there's not a smoky smell.

That is exactly how I use it. I also put water on my ends and seal with it through the week. I moiturize my skin with it and clean my face... I massage my babies with it... I love castor oil!! I use the oil from the drugstore or healthfood store it's very inexspensive. I just bought a big bottle of cold pressed castor oil from vitamin shoppe today for like 8 bucks.

I use JBCO on my edges. For two months, I used JBCO mixed with BT (Boundless Tresses). I noticed improvement. However for the last 2 weeks (since I've run out of BT), I've been using JBCO by itself. I decided not to re-buy the BT so I could see how the JBCO works independently. I'll post a thread on the results (with pics) of both treatments in about 6 weeks.

I used castor oil as part of my pre-poo elixir and then I used it as step 2 in my sealant regimen. I use liquid/ water based sealant i.e. Oyin's, Set it free 2. Oil and then 3. butter. Helps lock in the moisture

I bought Castor and Almond. Good service and fast shipping.

I mix in some of my dominican conditioners when I am making a "super conditioner" or I use it to seal my ends daily. I have noticed a BIG difference in thickness and retention!

I use it on my scalp twice a week after I wash and DC. I also put it on my nape and edges to help thicken them up a little. I may start adding a little to my DCs as well.

EVERY WEEK before I wash I overnight pre-poo with it. As a matter of fact today is the special day. Then twice a week I use JBCO on my scalp. As it gets colder I seal my ends with it.
