Help me understand the difference. Hot oil treatments are great to me. I want to start conditioning as well. Is one more necessary than the other????? Thanks Ladies!

Conditioning is more necessary and more important than hot oil treatments. Deep conditioning helps combat the damage of heat-styling and chemical treatments. It helps to moisturize and replenish moisture that is lost during those chemical services, heat-styling, and everyday wear and tear.
Conditioners keep the hair shiny, resilient, elastic, and healthy.

Hot oil treatments can help with dry scalp conditions. They are used to give the look of conditioned hair as well as to restore the natural oils to the hair/scalp. Oils don't have the ability to penetrate into the hair shaft, only coat the cuticle. Hot oil treatments makes the hair look more healthy.

A deep penetrating conditioner is absorbed in the hair shaft to improve the hair's health and appearance.

Tip: To save on time, mix your oil w/ your conditioner and deep condition under dryer for 15-30 min and rinse.

I really don't have an answer for you as I don't do hot oil treatments...but what oil are you using in yours? I know when I do a dc I'm really moisturizing my hair...sorry that's all I can offer. But give it a sec the experts will come in soon!!

Personally, I've never understood hot oil treatments - I don't see how, considering that oil does not moisturize, they can really moisturize the hair. And considering that most oils also can't actually penetrate the hair - I dunno. :ohwell: I haven't used a hot oil treatment in YEARS.

Conditioning, on the other hand, is vital - and I don't think you will find anyone here who disagrees with that. If it's a question of doing one instead of the other, conditioning wins, hands down! :yep:

A commercially prepared hot oil treatment (as opposed to a homemade one) actually is another form of conditioner.
