i love coconut oil as a hot oil cos it makes h´my hair and new growth so soft.

i mix a lot of coconut oil with some olive oil and castor oil, warm and apply to my hair for as long as possible. the result is my new growth lays flat and nice.

Wow I never tried the coconut oil as a pre-poo hot oil...this should work nicely w/ my avocado oil when Ive got a lot of new growth...thanx...

Shree,

Ive just been using extra virgin olive oil, avocado oil, and Keracare Essential oils as hot oil treatments but someone suggested adding some honey and/or blackstrap molasses to give the hair incredible shine....

IMO,

Commercially made hot oil treatments work best. My faves are ION and L'Oreal Nature's Therapy.

I use virgin coconut oil or extra virgin olive oil or liquid shea butter, but try to save the last for my deep conditioning treatments because I mix it with Elucence Moisture Balancing Conditioner. I add essential oils to my hot oil treatments.

I use either extra virgin olive oil, or Elysian Isle Avocado oil or coconut oil. Hot Six Oil is also nice.

You may want to look on the hair recipes page here which has a thread from CarmenRose listing a tonne of really great hot oil treatment suggestions. Def. check it out.

Supergirl,

How do you do your hot oil treatments using ION and Nature's Therapy? Do you follow the directions on the bottle or do you have your own way?

Hairlove,

I follow the directions except that I don't use them after I shampoo. I use them after I condition. I'm usually in the shower too, so I may leave them on a little longer than the directions say.
