Hot Oil 2x per week too much?

Hi Ladies

Right now I am just getting so fed up with my hair. Its like it takes 1 step forward and 5 backwards.

Some parts of my hair are dry no matter what I do, they are keeping the rest of my hair from progressing, its like my hair grows so long and I get pleased with it, then I have to trim it because it gets so dry (Yes I HAVE TO trim my hair at least every 3 or 4 months its IMPOSSIBLE for me to go longer I have tried many times and end up having to have MORE cut off).

My hair is so strange its like some parts of it are moisturised no matter what -even if I didn't moisturise them for a week the ends look near to perfect and other parts can't get enough moisture no matter what I do and these are the parts that are holding back my progress BIG TIME i swear I would be APL by now if it wasnt for those.

I recently started hot oiling / oil overnight again and could kick myself for not having done this for ages becuase my hair sudenly feels like 3C when I do this! (I am 4a / 4B) but after about 3 days its back to dry dry dry.

I was thinking of hot oiling / pre poo with oil over night 2x per week do u think this is too much? I am 4a / 4B relaxed.

Thanks

I think your issue might be water. What's your tap water like in London, hard water? You might want to invest in a good filtered shower head and a non-sodium lauryl/laureth sulfate shampoo. Maybe castor oil soap, liquid or bar? Dudu Osun soap is also good to wash....so is Shikakai bar. It takes a little time to get used to because the "feel" is quite different. That might help with the dryness.

What's your conditioner like? Silk protein conditioners impart lots of moisture and the right amount of protein so you're not overdoing it. You might want to pre-poo before washing like you said...sounds good to me.

Lastly, how do you wear your hair? Wash and go or rollerset? Lots of us have tried the Hawaiian Silky 14-n-1 and it's great! It's so creamy and moisturizing without being oily or too wet. If you wash and go, you might want to try it for daily styling because it seriously repels the dryness. You can also rollerset with the stuff. It's amazing. You shouldn't have to cut back all your growth every few months. That doesn't sound right.

Thanks for responding.

I have a shower filter looks like that is not helping:ohwell:

I wash and deep condition at least once per week without fail, I use ORS Mayo and then another moisturising conditioner - recently started using ORS replenishing PAK in the bottle.

I have been bunning and protective styling under a phony pony / half weave, my hair still dries out after about 3/4 days without fail..

What I want to know is doing a pre-poo twice per week going to help or make my hair have too much buildup?

Thnks

if it works for you, then stick with it :)
I do hot oil treatments once a week and some might find that too much since they do it every 2 weeks...
your hair might be naturally dry like mine...have you done a porosity test?

well obviously if your hair is dry...then lack of moisture comes into play. If your concerned with a prepoo regimen...then u want to pick one that counts. don't just prepoo with oil b.c. it makes your hair FEEL nice. You want a concoction that is gonna help bring back moisture to the spots that you feel have lost its moisture. and when ur relaxed it can be soooooo may reasons to it.

have u checked your porosity?....what's your keratin regimen?...do you moisturize in between your wash days?....what are your main dcs?...are u chelating/clarifying properly?

Where can you get a shower filter in england?
...try drinking more water(filtered lol) and add Glycerine and water to your preepoos.
If you normally wash twice a week then i guess thats cool but if not dont change it.

Have you considered using a conditioner that offers more moisture? Like Nexxus Humectris, Keracare Humecto, Panetene's Relaxed & Natural Deep Conditioning Mask or Kenra's Moisturizing Conditioner? How about moisturizing leave-ins?

I think Hot Oil treatments would help seal in the moisture afterwards, but I'm not sure about using it just by itself.
