Hooked on Beauty Supply store.

Hi ladies, Just thought I would start a thread to see if there is anyone else out there like me. Ok ya'll, I think I am hooked on beauty supply stores. I mean really hooked like a crackhead on crack. Everytime I pass a bs store I want to go in. I make an excuse to go in almost every day. And the days I don't, I am sitting around trying to figure out whatelse I can buy. I sometimes go in the store with no money at all just to see what new shamppos or conditioners they have. During my lunch I will browse the store and make myself need things whether I need them or not. ie: spray bottles, conditioner packets, combs, stocking caps, etc. Anything I can buy that doesn't cost a lot of money I buy on my low income days. When I get paid I buy bigger things. I am hooked and I like it. But I know it is bad for my purse as well as my hair. Anyone else out there like me... If so, what is your story?

I told my husband my new years resolution is to stop going to the bs store everyday. But I know I am lying.

i used to be that way years ago, but that feeling has been curbed. i buy what i need, and i do a lot of thinking and research if i buy a want. i like to try new things, but there aren't too many products in the BSS that i like. well, i go to a professional, licensed only one, so there is a big difference.

Oh really? There is a licensed salon near where I live that sell products. What is the difference in what they sell and BSS? Is it because you think their products are fresher?

salons that sell products are geared towards their retail sales and for home maintenance.

at a licensed beauty supply store, they sell high end professional products only. plus there is a big price difference.

Oh I didn't know this. Thanks. The salon near me has Dudleys products. What do you think about Dudleys?

Are you a newbie? If so it is kind of natural to be a pj. Eventually you should find what your hair likes and just stick with it.

Yes Carameldimples, I am a newbie. I guess that's why I am going wild. I hope it tapers off soon or I am going to be bald.

If you want good quality products, you won't find them in regular, Korean bss. Sallys has better supplies. Also Target and Walgreens too. Lots of ladies order from online, black owned companies.

I like oyin handmade, qhemet biologics, silk dreams and darcy's botanicals to name a few. These companies don't have all the chemicals we are trying to avoid. Also they are made by us for us.

Try websites like sagenaturalceuticals.com or aveyou.com or curlmart.com to find these items.

i love to browse BSS stores. its always fun to find something new. i stopped buying though. i just write them up on a small pad and look up the reviews online

I used to be like that. I'd just browse and read labels because it interested me. Eventually you see that it's all the same stuff from one store to the next and even the new "natural" lines aren't anything all that interesting.

Now I'm only into large quantities for a small price. I always check out the clearance section of drugstores and stock up.

This is me!

I normally don't buy much now, but on a whim I picked up Ferm maintenence products from Cosmoprof, and IM IN LOOOOVE!!!

I still like to roam through the beauty supply stores. But only because I get my conditioner packets from there. I only get the Aphogee 2 minute and ORS Hairepair. Other than that, i remind myself that none of those products have worked for me properly. I just go for fun. When i was a newbie, I wasted too much at the BSS. Then i found black owned companies, and I feel head over heels in love. Give it time newbie, and remind yourself that this too shall pass :)

oh, and WELCOME!

I once roamed the beauty supply store. It was my thing that I did when I got off work. Some of my co-workers hit the bar, I hit the beauty supply. A few years went by and the BSS got old because it seemed I had all the products and I had tried them and I discovered what worked and what didn't. None of it affected my hair in a negative way. The more I experimented and worked with my hair, the more I learned.

Now, I don't browse like I used to because its too overwhelming, I like to keep it small like Sally's (and I've grown bored with Sally's) or online. And now I know what works so its not all so fascinating. So don't stress, your pjism will run its course when its ready.

This is true. They sell their products at cost and not retail. And the products are different than BSS.....at least in my neck of the woods. I did find when I was in NY a couple of months ago the BSS seemed to have every kind of hair product there is.

That's what my daughter does. I always always ask her before I buy a product because I know she's done the research!:yep:
