<font color="blue">Hi everyone!
I notice that a few of you like to use honey on your hair.
How do you apply it? /images/graemlins/frown.gif Do you mix it with something? Do you use it with heat? How is honey beneficial to the hair???
Please let me know.
Thanks /images/graemlins/smile.gif

i started using honey with my hot oil treatment (olive oil). i have this advice from carmenrose. she posted that she uses this mixture and so i gave it a try and i liked how my hair felt.
i only use honey with my olive oil. i know on other hair boards there are recipes for a final rinse with honey to give your hair more shine. but i have never tried that.

when i do my hot oil treatment i put about 3/4 cup of oil in a plastic bowl and then just add about 2 tablespoons or more honey. then i warm it in the micro and just put it on my hair. i put a plastic cap on my head and just leave it on for at least 20 min (but longer if i have time) then i rinse and continue with my shampoo&amp;conditioner.
i do this maybe twice a month (very lazy /images/graemlins/drunk.gif)

i could not tell you how honey is beneficial, but i'm sure somebody here will know. or you can do a search on the internet.

You can mix it with your ordinary conditioner for a deep treatment.

You can use it in a vinegar rinse.

It adds shine and acts like a humectant.

Hi CarmelBarbie,
I am loving the honey/olive oil hot oil treatments, thanks to CarmenRose. They make my hair really soft /images/graemlins/rosebud.gif and shiny w/o having to put a lot of oil on my hair afterwards. I really think this has helped w/the moisture level in my hair. My hair was like straw previously. I use it every other wash and instead of a pre-shampoo treatment I do it between 1st and 2nd washes because I like to wash all the other products out first. I leave it in for 20 min. /images/graemlins/rosebud.gif
My hair really loves this stuff. I also tried it today w/olive oil, castor oil, jojoba oil and honey and it turned out well.

I read that honey is a natural humectant.

Hi, I'm CarmenRose.

I tried this once after reading about it from a hair recipe board or site (I forget where I got it from) and loved it. It really sinks into the scalp and the combination with olive oil is great. I used to use only olive oil, but after adding the honey, I can't do without it.

Personally, I do it for every hot oil treatment, which I tend to do weekly. It can be kind of sugary when you put it in, but the results after washing and setting are well worth it..IMHO...I would say it try it once and tell us what you think. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

I add it to conditioner. It acts like a moisture booster to any conditioner you add it too. I've yet to try it with oil as a hot oil treatment, but I will now.

Honey really does add moisture to your hair. It is also extremely soothing to an inflamed scalp and other skin, too. If you have not tried it in a facial mask, you should.

I've used honey on my hair straight. Basically dampened with a spray bottle a plenty and then spread honey throughout. It is wonderful on its own.

The other way I especially like to use it is in a mixture with blackstrap molasses or blackstrap molasses and plain yogurt. You might try this because the BSM makes the honey especially spreadable, same thing with the yogurt.

Anyone still using honey?
Can it replace a regular deep conditioner?

I don't believe it is strong enough to replace a regular deep conditioner. You still need the proteins that are in dc's. Unless you create your own deep cond. that contains honey and egg.....hmmmmm.......that's a thought!

I've been dc-ing with ORS OOR Paks the last few weeks and am so in love  I've been considering adding a little honey to the relationship for extra shine and moisture. I also need to work on my scalp. It's been flaking and dry lately.

Well, it's sort of milder than something like Aphogee but strong than something like VO5. It really does strengthen and adds shine. I know ladies who've used it to stop breakage and it has worked.

One time I sat under the dryer with a mixture of egg, mayo and evoo on my head and ended up with bits of scrambled egg in my hair! :lachen:

I add a little honey to my conditioners. Also, this past week I did a deep conditioning treatment w/ORS oil replanishing pak and added a dollop of honey and I LOVED LOVED LOVED the results! Honey rocks in book.

LOL...Last night I had asked one of the Pakistani sisters at the Islamic center what she used in her hair b/c I noticed it is always shiny and she told me she uses honey mix with milk and egg in her hair. I don't know the exact measurements b/c she said she just put. She said her hair used to be long b/c of this (and of genetics).

I use honey in my deep conditioners and in my leave in. For me it acts as a humectant like glycerin but if the atmosphere is dry, It won't suck the moisture out of my hair and leave it dry (like glycerin does).

I use honey in my deep conditioners with olive oil and cream of nature with some cholesterol. i notice that the honey gets warm when u use it with heat and that moisturises my hair as well as increases the slip from the cream of nature. Adding honey to my deep conditioner has been ond of the best things that i have done for my hair. It really helped with the split ends.

I have a shampoo bar made with it. I love it! Naturals should really consider using it because it is a humectant. Moisture from the air will be drawn to your hair, (hey that rhymed) and your hair should feel softer longer.
