But I have to say, I'm not a full believer in protective styles for the sake of keeping the hair off the shoulders. My hair in the back just barely touches the shoulders (not fully stretched, I mean) in a braidout or twistout. But my hair is layered. Seems to me that if touching the shoulders made prevented your hair from retaining length or made your ends jacked up, the hair in the back would be the shortest and most jacked up while the hair at the top, which doesn't touch the shoulders, would continue growing well. I just don't see that on my head. But what protective styles do help in is the prevention of too many knots, which I'd have to rip out, which would be the breakage I'm looking to avoid.
. I'm looking at May/June now, but I wanted to wish all you ladies luck...and congratulations to those who've already made it
